Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 9: Cyrax & Sektor

After a long delay between episodes, the final episode of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series has arrived.  This is the last episode of its first season, which has shaped up to be quite impressive and has me anticipating what will be offered up in the second season.  I addressed the reasoning behind why this episode had such a delay in a previous post concerning the Warner Premiere panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con (found HERE), but essentially, the crew wanted enough time to make the episode, which features CG robots, to look great and what better place to premiere it than amongst the fans at Comic Con.  The results were met with cheers and now the episode is available to all.  It is another fine example of how this web series has made great progress in adapting the popular video game franchise into an exciting live-action format.  Check out the episode below. Comic-Con 2011: Vampire Diaries

Yeah, yeah, yeah…I’m a guy so I’m not supposed to like the CW’s Vampire Diaries.  Go ahead.  I heard it all before.  So with that out of the way, it is with great pleasure that I got the opportunity to cover CW’s Vampire Diaries in Ballroom 20 at Saturday’s 2011 Comic-Con festivities.  In attendance on the panel were none other than Candice Accola, Paul Wesley, Kevin Williamson, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Julie Plec.  And before I go any farther, there’s one thing I have to confess…I’m TEAM DAMON!  Wow!  It feels good to get that off of my chest. SDCC 2011: The Walking Dead

Last year saw the premiere of the television adaptation of acclaimed graphic novel author Robert Kirkman’s ongoing zombie series, The Walking Dead.  I managed to attend the panel at last year’s Comic Con, where I was able to see a first look at the series.  If it were not for the insanity going on with the busy Hall H schedule this past Friday at this year’s Comic Con, I would have loved to have attended the panel again for season two of the now critically acclaimed television adaptation.  However, I may have had trouble, since the panel for The Walking Dead was one of the most anticipated panels at this year’s Comic Con.  Fortunately, I still had a chance to visit the booth on the showroom floor, as well as get a look at season two, which can be seen below. SDCC 2011: Warner Premier: H+ and Mortal Kombat Legacy

Thursday at San Diego Comic Con was packed with panels and people, as my fellow geeks and I continued to make our way through all of the different exhibits, booths, and presentations.  While the much anticipated Twilight panel certainly got its audience and hours at a time were spent by people in various other lines as well, including the panel for the awesome HBO series Game of Thrones (wish I could have been there), I did manage to take some time and see what Warner Premier had to offer in the way of their new and popular web series.  The results were interesting enough as the panel included a new web series being produced by Bryan Singer and, more excitedly, a panel with the stars and creators behind the popular online hit, Mortal Kombat Legacy. Man v. Food Season 3 (DVD Review)

Adam Richman and his seemingly bottomless stomach conquer food challenges across America. Get ready to watch Adam defeat the most monstrous food challenges to date.  The five pound grilled cheese challenge at Melt Bar &Grille in Cleveland, Ohio and the insanely spicy ludicrous wing challenge at Chicken or the Egg in the Jersey Shore, and a lot more.  I have a friend named Drew Maguire who would have been perfect for this type of show, since he’s never sat down to a meal he didn’t finish, regardless of the portion size, spiciness or time frame in which he was required to finish.   Watching him eat over the years definitely prepared me for this show so it’s no surprise that I enjoyed watching this.

Louie – The Complete First Season (Blu-ray Review)

From the inventive imagination of Louis C.K., Louie puts a spotlight on Louis C.K.’s everyday ordeals, his quest to find love and his pursuit of humor.  Each episode features a scripted story and a mix of his stand-up comedy, which is original material for the series.  The single-camera comedy is shot entirely in New York and features a unique mix of Louis C.K.’s stand-up comedy and scripted stories.  Louis C.K. serves as executive producer, writer, director and editor for the series, which is a fairly impressive feat especially considering how good the show is. Robin of Sherwood Set 1 (Blu-ray Review)

Combining elements of history, myth and magic with some action, Robin of Sherwood: Set 1 has arrived on Blu-ray with all 13 episodes from Series 1 and 2.  Marking the series’ first Blu-ray release, this presentation of the 1980’s British series comes digitally remastered and presented in stunning high definition with over eight hours of bonus material .  Shot entirely on location in England’s castles and countryside, this set brings the centuries-old legend to vivid life.  Broadcast on PBS and Showtime as Robin Hood, the ensemble cast includes Michael Praed (Dynasty) as Robin of Loxley, Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Departed) as seething-mad Will Scarlet, and Nickolas Grace (Brideshead Revisited) as the greedy, conniving Sheriff of Nottingham. Glee Live! In Concert!

What happens when you have the hottest musical/comedy show on television? You take your act on the road! Glee was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, which, believe it or not, was originally intended to be a film. Murphy, however, had other ideas and eventually proposed Glee as a weekly TV show instead of a big screen production. With two seasons in the history books and an ever-growing fanbase, the only logical thing to do next was turn Glee the show into Glee Live!  In Concert!

Leverage Season 3 (DVD Review)

We’ve got more television antics to bring you here on Why So Blu.  On deck we have Leverage The 3rd Season on DVD.  This is the complete 3rd season of the hit television show which airs weekly on TNT.  Again, as with Being Human I was thrown into the review mix without knowing what the show would be about, so I had to go back into the Netflix queue and request the first two seasons on DVD to better acquaint myself with Leverage. The other buzzwords that I was hearing prior to watching Leverage was that it was an American remake of the British television show Hu$tle. I adore that show.  There was only one way to find out and that was by tackling the Leverage series all at once.  Here’s our review for Leverage The 3rd Season.  Enjoy.   Continue reading ‘Leverage Season 3 (DVD Review)’

Dog the Bounty Hunter – This Family Means Business (DVD Review)

Until now, I’d never actually seen a full episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter. I get sucked in by most reality shows, good and bad – so I thought I’d give this one a try.  I don’t know if I’m proud or ashamed to say that I enjoyed it quite a bit.  With only six episodes on this DVD, it certainly left me wanting more.  By the end of the second episode I began to think of Dog, his wife Beth, and the rest of the crew as my extended family.  The gang of bounty hunters is often loud and obnoxious (especially Beth) but I love them anyway.  The criminals are also pretty entertaining.  Fans of the show COPS who enjoyed watching stupid people get arrested will enjoy Dog the Bounty Hunter in the same way.  If  A&E ever manages a cross-over between my other favorite trashy reality show (Billy the Exterminator) I will be in heaven.  Maybe Dog and Billy could hunt down some animal poachers together! Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 4 – Kitana & Mileena (Part 1)

This week’s episode of the Mortal Kombat web series is a nice change in pace and may be the best episode yet. It does not feature much action and the running time once again lasts a little less than 10 minutes, including credits, but we learn a lot of backstory about several classic Mortal Kombat characters. We get to see the land of Outworld for the first time, where the characters of Shao Kahn, Baraka, Mileena, Kitana and Sindel are all introduced. This episode also benefits from a change up in its style. Along with live action set pieces (which really stretch the budget, given the look of Baraka), this episode features a number of motion comic-styled animated sequences to provide for some of the more abstract designs from within Outworld. It was also nice to see this episode not retrain from Mortal Kombat-style bloody violence, which was missing from last week. Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 2 – Jax, Sonya and Kano (Part 2)

It’s that time again!  Yep!  That’s right!  It’s episode #2 of the online phenomenon known as Mortal Kombat: Legacy.  Fight!  So here we are.  This is the Kevin Tancharoen’s second installment in the webseries that picks up right after the big explosion in the first episode.  I guess the only complaint circulating around the web today about this second episode is its mere running time of 7 minutes.  I got one thing to say about that.  Shut up people!  It’s free and it’s Mortal Kombat! What more do you want?  So without further ado, here’s episode #2.  Enjoy!  And again…Fight! Continue reading ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 2 – Jax, Sonya and Kano (Part 2)’

Mortal Kombat Legacy: Ep. 1 (Watch it Here!)

This is the moment you have all been waiting for folks and it’s finally here!  Since it was first announced this past February, fans around the world have anxiously been awaiting the very first online episode (see here).  I’m not into divulging any spoilers, but I was overjoyed to hear the F-bombs in the show!  You gotta keep it real, right?  Also, I like to point out that the production value is relatively high here.  You can definitely tell the Magic Bullets scenes when you see them, but overall, the quality rules.  That’s important, right?  But how’s the story?  Well, it wasn’t what I expected, but I will let you be the judge of that.  So without further ado, I present to you the first online episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy.  Enjoy it!
