Ever since House Of The Devil, Ti West will always have my attention and my dollar. I’m very interested in anything he does. His latest effort, The Sacrament, I caught on VOD a few months ago as it didn’t play in any theaters here. And its a pretty unique little animal he’s constructed. Yes, groan now, it uses the found footage device as its storytelling method. However, it overcomes that with some strong performances from its characters (including Amy Seimetz! yay!) who don’t seem treat it like its a found footage movie. It’s also one of those eerie movies that get right under your skin. Ti West infuses his patience and restraint once again in this slow-burn thriller. Even when everything seems ok in this film, you just don’t trust it and you feel very uncomfortable. You’ll be able to check it out for yourself on Blu-ray in a little under a month. One little complaint…I wish they had used the original theatrical poster for the cover of the Blu-ray. It was so damn cool. This is just, well, mediocre and very “also ran”. I called this back on April 3, “but anyway”. Yes, we have another Wishlist title making its way to glorious Blu-ray. The Farrelly Brothers’ severely underrated Woody Harrelson/Randy Quaid/Vanessa Angel/Billy Murray bowling comedy is set to drop in just a few months. And its porting its extras over as well as having some new interviews. Its being sold as a “cult comedy” so it looks like Aaron Neuwirth and myself are not its only fans. This may wind up being just some cheap $9.99 bargain bin Blu-ray in the end, but that $9.99 bargain bin Blu-ray is my X marks the spot gold inside a treasure chest on Skull Island. I’m excited and you should be too, to give this overlooked film another try. To read my plead for it to come to Blu-ray CLICK HERE, and to find all the information on this release scroll down! Just think about 90s Vanessa Angel in high definition for moment, shall we? Continue reading ‘KINGPIN Rolls Onto Blu-ray October 14!’

Godzilla was one of my most anticipated summer blockbusters of 2014 and I was really glad that it delivered (Review HERE). We now have word today that Godzilla will be making its way onto Blu-ray on September 16th. The Blu-ray appears to be packed with extras, as well as some bonus packaging goodies described in this press release. This is of course the film that re-introduces the king of the monsters into the modern world, under the hand of director Gareth Edwards, with co-stars that include Aaron Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, and more. I’ll be excited to see what else is revealed on this Blu-ray, but for now, check out the official word on what will be included by continuing on in this post.

Here’s another little film from last year I was trying to spread the word out on. THE BATTERY is the best zombie film in maybe a decade. Jeremy Gardner takes a very low budget, simplistic approach and comes up with possibly one of the most realistic portrayals of the zombie apocalypse. I can’t sing this movie high enough praises. Everyone was wondering who was going to get to release it on home video and BOOM, like all the other prayers they seem to answer, Scream Factory came through. I can say without a doubt this is THE BEST modern title they’ve put out. Its that damn good. See for yourself on September 16!

I very purposefully avoided catching Brick Mansions in theaters, as I am a huge fan of the original version of this film, the french action flick District B13. That said, this is one of the late Paul Walker’s final films, let alone another reason to see what it looks like when RZA commits to a major acting role. Adding on David Belle, who starred in the original as the exact same character, has me curious as well, so I guess I will now get the chance, with Brick Mansions now hitting Blu-ray on September 9th. It should be noted that this Blu-ray will feature a much longer unrated version as well. Read on the learn more about this upcoming release.

I am not saying this belongs in the “about time” category, but I actually am a big fan of this Oscar-nominated working class comedy featuring a solid cast and some good heart, which makes me happy to finally see it coming to Blu-ray. The Full Monty is about six unemployed men, who are inspired by a touring group of male strippers, and decide they can make a small fortune by putting on a striptease show of their own, but with one big difference. They intend to go “the full monty” and bare it all in front of the world! The film arrives on August 5th. Check out this post to here more about this upcoming Blu-ray release.

Roger & Me, the highly acclaimed and groundbreaking hit film that launched Michael Moore’s career as a documentary filmmaker and a leading nationwide activist, debuts in a new 25th Anniversary Blu-ray™ edition, DVD and Digital HD on October 7 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Roger & Me is a highly original, personal and satire account of one of America’s greatest urban disasters told against the background of the tough times in Flint, Michigan, Moore’s hometown. The birthplace of General Motors, Flint had been economically decimated by, among other things, plant closings and the elimination of 30,000 GM jobs. In Roger & Me, Moore gives cinematic voice to his razor-sharp, compassionate and often wryly humorous perceptions of what went wrong in Flint, and chronicles his much-thwarted efforts to meet face-to-face with then-GM Chairman Roger Smith. Blending humor with scathing indictment, Roger & Me ignited a national discussion about the cruelties of corporate America and inspired other filmmakers to make films that would be seen by wider audiences.

I love this announcement as you’ll remember it appeared on my first wishlist. I’m a big fan of effects legend Stan Winston’s directorial debut. Its a terrific throwback monster/effects movie that is filled with suspense and kills. Its also got a great performance from Lance Henriksen. Pumpkinhead truly is a unique experience and one that I’ve been pining to have on Blu-ray. I would taken a barebones copy, but wow, I feel spoiled with Scream Factory getting it and treating it right. Its got a slew of all new bonus features and I just can’t wait to dig into it! Below you’ll find all the goodies and information about this release as well as a preorder link. Continue reading ‘PUMPKINHEAD Coming To Blu-ray In Awesome Scream Factory Fashion!’

Olive Films newest rescue, Arch Of Triumph, is a 1948 film that comes as an adaptation from a book with the same name. The film’s original script featured much more ruthless violence, but the MPAA had all this stuff removed before the script was even to be shot. And originally it didn’t include a love story either, but that was added to make it have more commercial appear (leading to the original writer to call it quits). This aspect landed them a superstar in actress Ingrid Bergman. Arch Of Triumph wound up being remade or re-adapted in 1985. This time it was a BBC TV movie that had legendary Anthony Hopkins in the lead role.
