Here’s a flick that I did not get to see because I was out of town. I had every intention of squeezing this one into my plans on my birthday this past August, but try as I might I couldn’t fit it in. News flash! Come this Thanksgiving, I won’t have that problem because the Ethan Hawke/Selena Gomez vehicle, Getaway, is coming to the Blu-ray format just in time for the holidays with exhilarating behind-the-scenes content and interviews with the cast and crew and more! Check out the full press release below courtesy of Warner Bros. for more information on this one. Continue reading ‘Own ‘Getaway’ on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and HD Digital Download 11/26′

I don’t know much about The Seasoning House. It appears to be a revenge movie in the setting of a military run brothel. It’s got Anna Walton who played Princess Nuala in Hellboy II in it. It also stars the son of the third Doctor Who. And finally the director is an acclaimed prosthetic effects artist known for his work on last year’s hit The Woman In Black. Aside from these small details and the little synopsis, I’ll be going in blind. And I always find that to be a good thing. Its fun in this era of having spoilers everywhere and overdone marketing to be able to sit and watch a film with completely fresh eyes. It harkens back to days of VHS rental stores where you rented something based soley upon the genre and the cool box are it displayed. If you’d like to preorder this title, please use the link below. The more detailed words on this release from Well Go USA follow the jump. Continue reading ‘The Seasoning House Comes to Blu-ray December 10!’

Here’s one, try as I might, I could never make it to the theater to see. I was not able to attend the press screening and I even was lucky enough to see the first twenty minutes or so before getting dragged out of the theater for an emergency I had to take care of. So today’s news is good news! This is the day the Lord has made. The Wolverine is finally coming home to the Blu-ray format and I couldn’t be happier. What a great way to start your day despite the panda cams being down as a result of our government’s shutdown. Nonetheless, this news and hopefully other great news will carry me through the rest of the day! Meanwhile, I invite you to check out the full press below and show your support by pre-ordering this title today. Thanks! Continue reading ‘‘The Wolverine’ Claws Its Way Onto Blu-ray December 3rd!’

The story of the The Amityville Horror has spawned 11 films and many documentaries (including My Amityville Horror which I do highly recommend). Of those films, Scream Factory is boxing together The Amityville Horror Trilogy, consisting of the first three films in the series. They work as a trilogy, because of the original 8 canon films in the series, these were the only ones that featured and revolved around the house at 112 Ocean Ave. Other films in the series would focus on haunted objects from the house being put in other homes. Also, of note, these were the only three released theatrically. The next film would be a TV movie and the remainder would go straight to video. It wasn’t until the 2005 Platinum Dunes remake that the house would return to the big screen. Continue reading ‘The Amityville Horror Trilogy (Blu-ray Review)’

The legendary teacher and Wing Chun grandmaster returns to the screen for the action-packed martial arts drama IP MAN: THE FINAL FIGHT, available on Blu-ray™ and DVD November 12th from Well Go USA Entertainment. The film depicts a realistic account of Ip Man’s later life in Hong Kong as he struggles against the vicissitudes of life: his pursuit of a romance with a young singer after his wife’s death (against the wishes of his disciples); his relationship with his elder son; and his thoughts on Bruce Lee, who would become his most celebrated student. Directed by Herman Yau (The Legend Is Born: Ip Man), IP MAN: THE FINAL FIGHT stars Anthony Wong (White Vengeance, Infernal Affairs), Eric Tsang (Infernal Affairs), Jordan Chan (White Vengeance), Gillian Chung (The Midas Touch), newcomer Marvel Chow, Anita Yuen (Thunderbolt), Xiong Xin-xin (Shaolin, Tai Chi Zero) and Wong Cho-lam (Beauty and the Seven Beasts). Bonus materials include a “Making of” featurette and interviews with the cast and crew. Continue reading ‘Ip Man: The Final Fight on Blu-ray and DVD November 12th!’

Scream Factory’s rendition of John Carpenter’s cult classic Assault on Precinct 13 has finally had its bonus features unveiled. This one features an additional commentary aside from the vintage Carpenter one. This time we get art director and sound effects editor Tommy Lee Wallace. I feel like Wallace hangs out in the lobby of Shout! Factory daily just waiting for his name to be called. The kicker of all the new stuff for me is a new interview with actress and Wallace’s ex-wife, Nancy Loomis Kyes (“Annie” from Halloween). She’s one of my favorite “Carpenter players” and is usually tough nowadays to get to go to conventions and do interviews and such. So this is a real catch for Carpenter fans like myself. I’d really like it if it turned out as a career retrospective interview like some of these Scream Factory ones have been (like the Jamie Lee Curtis one on The Fog). This release hits on, a now stacked for Scream Factory, release date on 11/19 (Night of the Comet and The Horror Show were both delayed to this day as well). It’s a perfect way to close out the “Fall of Fear”. As always, the nitty gritty details follow as well as the preorder link. I’ve never seen 1984’s Night Of The Comet. Honestly, I didn’t know it existed until Scream Factory announced it a while back. Maybe my video rental stores just didn’t have it when I was growing up. But, I’m looking forward to seeing a old school campy zombie comedy that’s fresh to me. You can correct me in the comments, but it sounds as if its in the vein of Night Of The Creeps. And I love that movie. Today, Scream Factory has provided us with the bonus content that will be on their special edition release. It’s got a whopping 3 commentary tracks and many new interviews with those involved with the film. I have no problem predicting that this will be the definitive version of the film for fans and collectors. A reminder, this title now releases on 11/19. It was originally scheduled for a few weeks earlier but got pushed back. Below is all the details from Scream Factory themselves and a preorder link. Prince Of Darkness does not street until next week, but in the meantime, I’ve been provided some clips from Scream Factory to wet your appetite. I’ve already reviewed the film, which you can find that HERE. Below, you’ll find the trailer and a scene from the film itself. Also, you’ll find an excerpt from Justin Beahm’s terrific interview with John Carpenter. The final clip comes from the interview with Carpenter composing collaborator Alan Howarth. The interview with Howarth is quite good as he defends and puts the works of John Carpenter high upon a pedestal. I hope you enjoy this sneak peek of the Prince Of Darkness Blu-ray. Scream Factory has done a marvelous job with this one (don’t they always?). If you haven’t preordered this one, do so today. Support Why So Blu? by clicking our Amazon link to secure your copy!
