The brainchild of writers Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert, Strangers with Candy: The Movie is an irreverent parody of a family sitcom inspired by the after-school specials and ‘very special episodes’ that frequented TV in the ’70s and ‘80s. The prequel film to the acclaimed ‘90s cult favorite Comedy Central television series of the same name, Strangers with Candy: The Movie will make its Blu-ray debut as a two-disc 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition set July 22, 2025 from Shout! Back in the 80’s Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman were an undeniable combination. The films the three created with their cast and crew members are still considered comedy classics 40 or more years after their initial releases. Stripes was a critical and commercial hit when it debuted in 1981. The sharply funny sendup of military life included a knockout performance from Bill Murray and also the first noteworthy performance of John Candy. In 2021, Sony released Stripes in 4K within their second Columbia Classics 4K set. Now, the film is being re-released as a standalone Steelbook. The discs included are the same discs from the previous release but now fans of the film can collect the film in the best format available without the high price tag of getting a box set. Seven friends, recent college graduates, are searching for a place in the real world, as they face issues of career and commitment. Kevin (Andrew McCarthy) is a cynical writer who scorns love until he realizes he’s in love with his best friend’s girl. Kirbo (Emilio Estevez), a law student, obsessively pursues an older woman. The beautiful, neurotic Jules (Demi Moore) paints a poignant picture of life in the fast lane. Against the backdrop of St. Elmo’s, their local hang-out, they save, betray and love one another as only the closest of friends can.

A versatile British-Chinese filmmaker whose career has spanned nearly fifty years, Po-Chih Leong has worked in a variety of genres, from action in Foxbat to horror in The Island, comedy in Ping Pong and the gangster movie in Shanghai 1920, which was nominated for Best Feature at the Chicago International Film Festival. His masterpiece, though, is Hong Kong 1941 – an affecting war drama starring Cecilia Yip (Nomad), Alex Man (Rich and Famous) and Chow Yun-fat (The Killer) in his breakout role. Produced by Sammo Hung, Hong Kong 1941 follows three Hongkongers forced to negotiate life under occupation as their homeland falls to the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II.
