Boss Baby was a surprise that popped up at the end of the Trolls panel. It only lasted for about 30mins, but the opportunity to see footage of a talking baby voiced by Alec Baldwin was well worth the wait. Boss Baby is the story of a family who’s new addition to the family turns out to be a high-powered business man in the form of a baby. His mission and goal is to oust his older brother from his position as the favorite son.

Before Batman: The Killing Joke premiered at Comic-Con in Ballroom 20 on Friday night, the cast attended a press junket for the animated film across the street at the Bayfront Hilton earlier in the day. On hand were voice talent Tara Strong (Batgirl), Ray Wise (Commissioner Gordon), and writer Brian Azzarello. Kevin Conroy (Batman) executive producer Bruce Timm, and the director Sam Liu were also in attendance, but didn’t have time to be rotated to my press table. The press room was massive, with what felt like hundreds of other reporters and journalists crammed into the dimly lit space. Jason Aaron is one of the best writers in the game today. The Other Side really put him on the map back in ’06, and ever since then he’s been a runaway train of talent and hits. Scalped was his first running title, it’s a brutal, addicting saga about Native American politics. Scalped introduced me to Aaron’s work, and from the first issue on, I knew I’d buy everything he wrote. He hasn’t let me down yet. Aaron has now been writing Thor for years, and it is, with no hyperbole, literally the best Thor run I’ve ever read. Oh yeah, and he also writes a little title you may have heard of, goes by the name of Star Wars. On top of that, he’s remained true to his indie roots, writing both Southern Bastards, and The God Damned. The first being a football-centric tale of southern culture, and the latter being a biblical book set in the pre-flood world which has a brutal take on that mythology, the likes of which you’ve never seen. Jason Aaron, full of charisma, intellect, and best of all, news, hosted a “panel”, if you can call one writer talking candidly to his fans a panel. It went like this… Continue reading ‘SDCC 2016: Spotlight on Jason Aaron’

Jason Bourne needs no trailer to sell it. Let’s be honest of that fact. When Bourne Identity dropped in 2002 it rejuvenated the stale international spy franchises out there. Just look at the style of what came next in the Bond series, Casino Royale, as living proof. Suddenly Bourne-like movies infected our screens everywhere from the mainstream Mission Impossible franchise to even television series like 24. Yes, technically 24 came out first, but surely you can see the influence of the Bourne films. What I want to know is what’s up with these “character name” movie titles? Stallone resurrected two dead franchises like that. Now I guess it’s Greengrass’ turn, eh? Continue reading ‘Jason Bourne Lays All His Cards Down On The Table (Movie Review)’

This is my very first Comic Convention and I’ve spent most of my time walking around with my mouth agape in awe at the incredible variety and awesomeness that San Diego Comic Con International has to offer! Its like a temporary entertainment epicenter for the whole world to flock to en mass. I honestly can’t conceive that there could be anything in the world of pop-culture that isn’t represented here in some way. And everyone is just so nice and welcoming! Even when you’re among the hordes of people traversing through the exhibit hall, everyone is still very courteous and polite. No one comes here with something to prove. Instead, everyone is here with something to SHARE. Which seems to be the general sentiment of SDCC. Continue reading ‘SDCC 2016: The Hall H Experience – Justice League’

The central idea of Nerve is one that sounds both ridiculous and completely accurate, based on the society of today. Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (of Catfish fame) have taken a script by Jessica Sharzer, adapted from a YA novel by Jeanne Ryan and developed a high school kids-focused thriller that doubles as social commentary. The results ride the line of plausibility, but there is something to admire in how the style keeps things moving and the premise holds together, despite not finding the best solutions as the stakes get higher.

What makes a good interview even better? How about the addition of some good grub with a good group for good times! Such is the situation recently when WhySoBlu was invited to celebrate the release of the second film by Sleepwalk With Me writer/director Mike Birbiglia called Don’t Think Twice (currently playing in New York and opening in LA & Chicago on July 29 from The Film Arcade) at a fantastic food spot known as Vintage Enoteca.

He’s back. He’s bad. And, he’s a dad! Belial, everyone’s favorite beast-in-a-basket, is back in this sensational third film in the wildly macabre BASKET CASE horror series. 1982’s BASKET CASE introduced horror fans to Duane Bradley and his twin brother Belial, and a new horror classic was born. They also introduced the world to Frank Henenlotter, the uniquely crazed talent who would later give us BRAIN DAMAGE and FRANKENHOOKER. In 1990 and ‘91, Henenlotter and star Kevin Van Hentenryck returned for two even more demented sequels, both coming to Blu-ray from Synapse Films this August (The ninth to be more specific)! See below for more details and pre-order links! Duane Bradley and his surgically-separated twin brother Belial return one last time to be the second sequel to Frank Henenlotter’s original monster movie classic, BASKET CASE. Synapse Films is proud to present BASKET CASE 3: The Progeny in a beautiful high-definition transfer from the original 35mm camera negative.
