Warner Archive Collection is bringing a movie with perhaps one of the most famous classic genre/cult posters of all time to the Blu-ray format – Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman. Its a movie that is everything from a trailer to a poster, but how many people really know it any more for the film that it is? I’m sure plenty, but moreso a general public conscience. The film will come with a fresh restoration and transfer to go with a commentary and trailer to compliment as bonus features. The disc arrives on December 6th. You can order yourself a copy using the paid Amazon Associates link that follows the review at the bottom of the page.

Black Christmas is always one of the horror holiday season staples and one not only one of the finest slasher films, but one of the proto-ones that were ahead of the trend. Scream Factory will be updating their Collector’s Edition from six years ago to 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray. While there’s of course brand new transfer, they’ve also updated both the original mono and 5.1 tracks this time around. The 5.1 also fixes some cues that were missed the last time around. This all somehow fits onto 3 discs in the set, which you can order for arrival when it comes out on December 13th. One of the more talked about films this year, for all the wrong reasons, was Olivia Wilde’s sophomore effort Don’t Worry Darling. People seemed to want to care about anything but the film itself and were predetermined to not like it upon release for things that have nothing to do with what the finished product is. Well, with it dropping on HBO Max and now on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray, maybe folks can just take a relaxed look at it. Complete with a Dolby Atmos track, the disc will also contain a deleted scene and a featurette. The release date is November 29th. If you’re interested in owning a a copy, you can use the paid Amazon Associates link below to secure yourself one.

In the 1990s, independent films were on the rise and studios like Miramax were at the forefront of distribution. Many studios created a separate wing to focus on and gather the independent, documentary, art house and international films under a single banner away from the blockbusters and bigger star studded fare. Sony Pictures developed Sony Pictures Classics for this very reason in 1992. And for the 30th Anniversary of the studio’s formation, they will be putting out a 4K Ultra-HD box set with 11 films from the course of their history, including 10 that are making their debut on the format. Here’s an overview of the entire set, complete with a video showcasing the packaging and links to all the individual reviews. You can order yourself a copy of this impressive box set, which would make a fantastic gift for that special cinephile in your life, using the paid Amazon Associates link below. Artist/Writer Scottie Young (Human Torch, New X-Men) has created something uniquely appealing with his new series I Hate Fairyland. This time, other than the book’s cover, Young steps back from artistic duties and works primarily as the series’ writer. With a title like that, you’re probably asking what this series is about, especially if you did not catch its prior inception. It centers around main character Gertrude, who was trapped in Fairyland as a child, grew up there, became disenchanted there, and split a lot of heads there…literally. What can I say? She carries a big axe.

Director Spike Lee has an impressive body of work, considering the number of excellent films delivered over the past five decades. With that in mind, the prolific director has at least two defining films that came pretty early in his career. There’s the landmark comedy-drama Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X, the epic biographical drama depicting the life of the famous Black activist. While having received two Oscar nominations (Best Actor for Denzel Washington and Best Costume Design for Ruth E. Carter), I look at Malcolm X as being one of the most important films to not be nominated for Best Picture. Of course, that hasn’t stopped its legacy from building over time. Now, for its 30th anniversary, the Criterion Collection has seen fit to release the film in a deluxe 4K UHD Blu-ray package, complete with new extras and a fantastic new transfer.

Marvel heads to South Korea with its newest super team, Tiger Division ! Emily Kim, who wrote the Spider-Man spinoff series Silk, assumes writing duties for Tiger Division, and does a more than proficient job I might add. As the inaugural issue states, “When South Korea needed defending, the National Intelligence Service, led by Director Ami Han, A.K.A. White Fox, assembled a team of super-powered individuals. Taegukgi, the powerhouse who packs a punch; Lady Bright, a card-wielding sorcerer; Mr. Enigma, a street-brawling demigod; the General, a living totem; Gun-R II, a fast-talking robot; and Luna Snow, a cryokinetic pop star.”

While Lionsgate has had plenty of fun providing 4K upgrades for the most popular hits in their bargain bin collection, it’s nice to see the studio finally provide this proper 4K release for Quentin Tarantino’s debut film, Reservoir Dogs. An indie cult classic from the early 90s, here’s a film that’s oozed cool all the way through thanks to the combination of a fiery set of character actors led by the intense Harvey Keitel, and its sharp ear for dialogue filled with profanity and pop culture references that would define Tarantino for a good portion of his career. This new release delivers the best way to watch the film at home. While it may be light on extras, the rewatchability remains plenty intact.
