Kathleen Madigan – Gone Madigan (Blu-ray Review)

For those of you that don’t know, Jay Leno thinks that Kathleen Madigan is one of America’s  best female comedians.  Madigan is also the winner of an American Comedy Award winner for Best Female Comic  and she was also a Last Comic Standing contestant.  Even if you don’t recognize her name, you’ve probably seen her on Comedy Central or something else.  For this Blu-ray, Madigan’s act was filmed in New York City’s Gramercy Theater. Gaga & Glee, Together Again

Last year during the inaugural season of Fox’s smash hit Glee, the show paid homage to one of the most controversial and popular performers in our midst today; Lady Gaga.  Performing her hits such as “Bad Romance” and a playful ballad rendition of “Poker Face,” the cast proficiently carried her work to their show.  So what’s next in store for the musical comedy? “Red Hill” Rolls In On Blu-ray

Again, we’re really late on this story, but after just watching the trailer for Red Hill in front of my Blu-ray of Justified I had to bring this tidbit of information to our readers.  Australia may have just brought us the answer to that horrible film dreck known as Jonah Hex. I watched the trailer and thought this looked great! The Blu-ray releases next week and I may just blind-buy it.  Read about the film and watch the trailer below!  Continue reading ‘“Red Hill” Rolls In On Blu-ray’

Gun (Blu-ray Review)

I’ll be honest…I really had extremely low expectations for this movie since the main star is a rapper who also happened to be the screenwriter for the movie. Curtis Jackson also known as “50 cent,” wrote and produced this movie because “…it was a socially conscious story about how guns go from the manufacturing point to retail and purchased by law-abiding citizens and how they fall into the wrong hands.” Continue reading ‘Gun (Blu-ray Review)’

Aaron’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of Spring 2011

Here is a list of some upcoming releases that I am looking forward to the most.  While the opening beginning months of 2011 will be a bit slow, theatrically speaking, worthwhile new releases will soon pick up for the better.  I have put “spring” in the title, but let me clarify:  I am counting all movies that fall between February and up to the end of April.  The summer may start in June, but the beginning of May is when the summer movies start happening.  As far as these choices go, the dates are subject to change, but at this point, they should all be sticking to these release dates.  So with all of that out of the way, let’s get to the flicks: Continue reading ‘Aaron’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of Spring 2011’

New Batman Movie Villains Announced!

I actually caught wind of this from fellow WSB staffer Gerard Iribe as Warner Bros. officially announced today who the villains will be in Christopher Nolan’s next addition to the Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises.  Who can they possibly be?!

Secretariat (Blu-ray Review)

This story about a legendary horse and the family that owned him is a perfect fit for the big screen but unfortunately, this is one race that Secretariat lost due to following Seabiscuit who stole a lot of his thunder. Secretariat has a great cast (Diane Lane, John Malkovitch, Scott Glenn, James Cromwell and a director (Randall Wallace), who is no stranger to making movies about historical events and people (he was involved in Braveheart, We Were Soldiers, and Pearl Harbor).

Dances With Wolves (Blu-ray Review)

Count ’em…five, six, seven Oscars.  A film doesn’t earn that kind of accreditation from being just good.  When the world left the 1980’s behind, a new decade began, and with it, an impressive library of films found their way into our hearts and minds.  Things didn’t just start off like a shot for 90’s cinema; it was more like a ‘kaboom’.  One such film that contributed to this was 1990’s Dances with Wolves.  Already well-established as an actor in Hollywood, Kevin Costner took to the director’s chair for the first time in his career with the western-oriented story penned by Michael Blake.  Now available for the first time on Blu-ray, comes this incredible tale of a man who found his way. Continue reading ‘Dances With Wolves (Blu-ray Review)’

Did You Get Stung By The Green Hornet?

Since I am so late to the game with delivering a review of The Green Hornet, I thought I would try a slightly different approach here.  How many of you already saw the film over the past weekend?  Well according to Box Office Mojo, The Green Hornet scored the highest grossing opening ever for a live-action superhero comedy with an estimated take of $35 million.  In my opinion, that’s pretty impressive for a film that everyone I know said they did not want to see.  Now it should also be noted that this past weekend at the movies was also one of the least attended weekends in over a decade.  So what’s that say? Continue reading ‘Did You Get Stung By The Green Hornet?’

Official: Hobo With A Shotgun Poster!

Hobo With A Shotgun was originally released with certain prints of  Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse a few years ago.  It was a fake trailer created for Rodriguez’s Grindhouse competition.  That’s all it took before director Jason Eisener decided to make a feature length film with Rutger Hauer in the lead as the Hobo…with a shotgun.  Magnet Films has released the official Hobo With A Shotgun theatrical poster and it is a doozy!  It reminds me of the original Machete poster.  Check it out!  Continue reading ‘Official: Hobo With A Shotgun Poster!’

‘Barney’s Version’ Is a Well Told Tale

Barney’s Version is a comedic drama, based on a very popular and prize winning Canadian novel, by Mordecai Richler.  The film stars Paul Giamatti, in a fantastic performance, as a man who has led an interesting life, which we follow through several decades.  The film boasts a solid supporting cast as well and manages to be a very entertaining picture throughout, as we see Giamatti’s character deal with the challenges he has faced, mainly involving his multiple marriages.  While I could pick more of this film apart, based on what I have heard about the structure of the novel, the fact is that I really enjoyed watching this film, and it is on that merit that I would easily praise what it has to offer. Death Race 2 (Blu-ray Review)

For fans of the first Death Race remake who wondered who Frankenstein was and how Death Race came to be, this movie is for them.  Actually, this movie is also for anyone that enjoys vehicular destruction too.  Death Race 2 despite being sold as a sequel is actually a prequel to the first movie.  While this is a direct to Blu-ray release, Universal made sure to get some well known actors to headline the movie including Sean Bean, Luke Goss, Ving Rhames,  and Danny Trejo.
