Aaron’s Top 10 Films of 2011 & Other Yearly Wrap-Up Stuff

To me, 2011 was a pretty unusual year.  I say that because I found there to be an unusual amount of great films that came out in both the realm of mainstream feature films and the realm of art house and independent features.  This year, like any year, had its share of duds as well, […]

Whimsical Charm Runs Through Scorsese’s ‘Hugo’ Like Clockwork

I feel that there are two ways to really delve into Martin Scorsese’s 3D adventure/drama Hugo.  On the one hand, I could address the fact that this is less a film for children, as the marketing would imply, and more a loving tribute to the creation of magic via the film format during the early […]

New York, New York (Blu-ray Review)

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese teams with Academy Award winners Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro in this splashy, flashy musical spectacle celebrating the glorious days of the Big Band Era in the Big Apple!  Jimmy is a joint-jump in saxophonist on his way to stardom.  Francine is a wannabe starlet who dreams of singing in […]

Take the Ferry Over to Shutter Island

I said this before, but this time I mean it.  This may be the hardest movie review I have ever been tasked to write.  That’s not because the movie sucked, quite the contrary, but because I was left with so many questions in regards to what I had just watched.  And that’s a good thing!  […]

Martin Scorsese Traps Us On Shutter Island

Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese once again collaborates with Leonardo DiCaprio after 3 successful films (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed).  This film is adapted and based off the novel by Dennis Lehane about an US deputy (DiCaprio) assigned to investigate a mysterious disappearance at a reclusive mental institution.  Scorsese’s Hitchcockian approach to gothic horror is ripe with suspense and human drama.
