La Tête contre les murs opens with François Gérane (Jean-Pierre Mocky) racing his motorcycle through the countryside, looking free. Director Georges Franju keeps him far back in the frame, small enough to be swallowed by the landscape. François hasn’t reached the hospital yet, but the film already puts walls around him.
