For three seasons now, The Flash has delighted fans of the CW and really taken the networks DCTV universe to new heights and popularity. I think the show has retroactively made people go back and catch up to Arrow as well as jumping right into Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl when they started. Barry Allen is a big deal through all the universes when he shows up. He’s also got an easily loveable team of charachters like Cisco, Catilin, Harrison Wells and Joe West. In this third season, the creators of the show picked up where we last left of and tackle the popular Flashpoint arc from the comic books. Warner Bros Home Entertainment will be releasing the full season, along with some bonus features, on Blu-ray come September 5, giving you ample time to refresh or catch up for the show’s fourth year. It appears that IFC Midnight and Scream Factory’s latest collaborative effort on a modern horror Blu-ray release has landed them a bit of a gem. One of the best reviewed movies they’ve ever put forth on the format (And I’m not just talking genre-junkie loving review sites and bloggers), this one boasts a very high Rotten Tomatoes score and the words and rating figures to back that up. A bit of a festival darling throughout the calendar last year in 2016, it has been around on streaming platforms for its continuing on in 2017 and expanding to a wider audience. You’ll be able to pick this one up beginning on September 5th on Blu-ray. You can secure yourself a copy of the film and make sure you have it on that release day by pre-ordering from the link below. 
Way back when, in the ye old times of the year two thousand and fourteen, there were two cinematic adventures of the half man half god Hercules at the box office for the enjoyment of those seeking entertainment. One boasted a behemoth, bonafide megastar. The other, Kellan Lutz. Today we’re here to talk about the one with Kellan Lutz, which unlike the one with Dwayne Johnson, is coming to the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray format. So…take that, other Hercules movie. You’ll be able to find The Legend of Hercules from Lionsgate when it comes on September 19th. If you are really looking forward to this one, I suggest the Amazon pre-order link at the bottom of this review as the best method to ensure you have a copy when it releases. And hey, as of writing this, its only like $16 right now! 
Synapse Films is giving you a nice double feature for your schlock loving goodness. Not only will you get the Blu-ray debut of 2014’s Biopic/Documentary The Creep Behind The Camera, but as an added bonus, you’ll get the original 1964 film with which that one is based, The Creeping Terror. Unfortunately, there’s no option to have the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode with which I was familiar. That was during the Mike Nelson era of the fame cult show. The disc is still stacked and DOES contain MST3K alumni and legend TV’s Frank himself, Frank Coniff, on one of the featurettes. This one will be coming out alongside Synapse Films’ other new release (Dario Argento’s Phenomena) on September 12th, so pre-order of them and have yourself a nice little triple feature of terror on new release Tuesday. 
Perhaps the greatest single film Blu-ray release of all time was Warner Bros 5-disc set of Blade Runner. It was perfect. It featured a great (For the time) looking transfer, 5 cuts of the film, lots of extras and a 3 hour documentary retrospective that was engaging, informative and honest. I’ve long said a perfect Blu-ray/DVD release is one where you have no questions or wants after it. So, when it comes to this new 4K Ultra-HD debut of Blade Runner being shy of the new extras, its no bother, because we already have everything we need. And this release comes with all of them minus the workprint. The important factor is how the film is going to perform in the video and audio department with this new format. And, I’ll give you the short here; it looks AMAZING. It comes out September 5th, don’t hesitate to pre-order your copy immediately. I’ll be shocked if anyone is disappointed with its presentation.

Synapse Films finally dropped their bombshell news we have been waiting almost five years for last week; the US Blu-ray release of their meticulous 4K remaster of Dario Argento’s masterpiece, Suspiria. Lest ye not be forgotten, they do have another Argento classic coming to Blu-ray soon as well. Phenomena was released last year from them in a limited edition steelbook, but its general standard release is now coming from them. This one is basically the two Blu-rays from the limited edition in a standard amaray case. You can grab this one from various retailers like Amazon rather than just the Synapse site or Diabolik. It’ll be released on September 12th (And you surely are the coolest if you pre-order yours from the link below). 
We have a sorta fascination with older, aged action heroes nowadays without really knowing it. People have flocked to Liam Neeson movies and there seems to be some interest still there when Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger do a movie. Its come a long way since an aged Roger Moore was vine swinging in India or hanging off a fire engine in San Francisco. Well, one series (Based on a comic book) decided to embrace all that, with the action comedy Red. Lionsgate is continue to consistently dig back into some of its catalog from this decade and make the 4K jump with them. Red and its sequel, Red 2, are next in line, coming out September 5th. The Disney Signature Collection has been focusing on getting some of their self inflicted out of print titles back out there on the market with some new bonus features and retaining most of the classic ones. Their fifth release in this line is the 1994 phenomenon known as The Lion King. Conveniently, its one of their next titles to get the modern “Live Action” update a la The Jungle Book, Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast and such. This new version will be trying out something a little different when it comes to the classic bonus material; it won’t be featured on the disc. You’ll have to access it by redeeming your digital copy and going that route to find it. The Lion King: Signature Collection will be available on Blu-ray August 29th. 
Ahh, another trip to the DCAU. Which, I believe this one isn’t really canon with the sort of ongoing series of what is going on. A sort of one-off side story to highlight the super popular Harley Quinn. This little featurette debuts The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch as the laughy daffy villainess and returns Kevin Conroy (Many’s pick as the best Batman ever) to his iconic role. Loren Lester returns as Nightwing, too. Batman and Harley Quinn was released briefly as a theatrical event, as well, to some pretty scathing reviews from the critical side. It comes out for home video on the 4K Ultra-HD format, but here at Why So Blu, we’re going to be covering the Blu-ray edition for our review, namely the Deluxe Edition, available August 29th. 
In this new, Disney-led, era of Star Wars, one of the best joys for me has been the animated follow up to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels. The program has been a nice bridge, follow up and unique to in its own right, piece of the galaxy. From its own characters to cameos and stories regarding known characters or resurrected “Legends” persons, its been a welcome part of the Star Wars family, What best works though, is how much the show has really delivered on some of those elder Star Wars feelings. Rebels is coming to a conclusion this Fall in its fourth season, but before that you can relive its rather large and eventful third season that sets it up. That season comes to Blu-ray, which you may pre-order below, on August 29th. 
With the release of Alien: Covenant on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray, its predecessor Prometheus easily lent itself to piggy backing with it on release date. A pretty simple upgrade for the 2012 Ridley Scott film. A film at odds with its audience, I find Prometheus a film I’m always eager and happy to revisit for another look. I’d like to thank Brian for ponying this one over to me, as he was originally going to cover this one, but things fell the way they did and he offered it to me. Last year, of all the Arrow-verse superhero shows, Supergirl was the highest rated in its inaugural season. But, unlike the others, it was on boring old dull CBS which pulls in the biggest network ratings. While great for the DC shows, it was poor for CBS. Plus it was an interesting show, so of course they had to pull it. Luckily, it took a little bit, but it logically found its right home on the CW where it became their second highest rated show. Unfortunately, since production moved to Canada, it had to jettison one of its strengths in Calista Flockhart. But, better to have the show with minimum contributions from her than no show at all. Supergirl’s second season comes to Blu-ray on August 22nd and you can pre-order this nice little set by clicking the Amazon link following this review. 
The Cabin in the Woods is one of those films that proves you should never judge any book by its cover or so to speak. This is one of those stories for me that’s so much deeper than what appears on the surface. What’s on the surface you ask? Well in regards to this movie I see it as your everyday cliche horror/slasher film that we all grew up on the 80’s complete with jocks, sexy chicks and good ole Rated-R gore. However under the surface it’s so much more. In fact by the flick’s fiery ending its flipped completely over and insane as can be (in a very good way). I can go on and on about how much I adore this 2012 gem, but rest assured we’ll cover all that down below. For the time being I am just stoked that The Cabin in the Woods is getting the red carpet treatment on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray this September 5th. However, before we get into the UHD Disc’s vitals let’s chat about why this little horror story is so damn scrumptious.

As is every summer, Marvel kicks it off with its latest and greatest. 2017 saw the hotly anticipated to their surprise hit from a few years back, the (At the time) dice rolling Guardians of the Galaxy. And of course the film was a big damn hit. James Gunn has shown he really has a handle on the source material and the film universe and characters he’s crafting as well. Its fantastic news that he will be returning for a third volume of the adventures of Star Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Drax and what will be Adolescent Groot. Also fantastic new, James Gunn has willed his way and gotten his wish to have the film released on the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray format, making it Disney’s first. The director campaigned for it all throughout his post production and press tour, having shot the film in 8K and not wanting his blasting of colors in the film to go to waste.
