Nana nana nana nana, nana nana nana nana BATMAN! So this is awesome. This is making for a great initial Comic Con 2014 post, as we now have a brief teaser for the upcoming box set of the complete Batman television series, along with an announcement for the panel taking place in Hall H. Back in 2011, fans of the popular video game series Mortal Kombat were treated to a brand new way of experiencing the series and various characters through the means of a pretty solid web series (which I covered HERE). Mortal Kombat Legacy was a much grittier portrayal of the world of Mortal Kombat, with an emphasis on applying a real world quality to the series, despite involving fantastical elements, such as the god of thunder, Raiden. Regardless, the web series was a hit at the time, but has only slowly leaked out information regarding the new season. Well, there was a panel at San Diego Comic Con this year, which was a great way to reintroduce audiences to the series. While a trailer was released a few months ago, fans got a new look at this upcoming season, as well as some information in regards to how things are going to change for the better. Continue on to learn more about this panel, check out some photos, and take a look at the latest trailer.

Out of all of the panels that were to appear in Hall H this year, the one that I was looking forward to the most (with the exception of Harrison Ford), was the Marvel one and it also proved to be the hardest one to get into as well. I love superhero comics and movies (both DC and Marvel) so I was very excited to see what Marvel had planned for Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier as they were the only two announced panels. I knew that Marvel being Marvel, would of course have something secret that they would spring on us and I couldn’t wait to see what it was. I thought it might be an official announcement for The Avengers 2 or maybe some welcome news of a brand new franchise like Doctor Strange or something. I thought there might even be a mention of The Guardians of the Galaxy, but considered that to be somewhat unlikely since they just started filming the movie. They couldn’t possibly have footage to show after fourteen days of filming right? And there’s no chance that Loki could show up to belittle the Hall H crowd either right? Well, true believers you just might be surprised… Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2013: Marvel Panel’

Sony Pictures had a big day on Friday at San Diego Comic Con this year, mainly due to the debut of footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the panel that went along with it (an article on that can be found HERE). With that said, there were plenty of other exciting things going on with Sony and Screen Gems at Hall H that day, which included presentations from 3 of their other upcoming films: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (something I was personally really excited about), The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (a book series I know next to nothing about…sorry), and the debut of footage from the remake of RoboCop (hopefully not as dull as the Total Recall remake from a year prior). The following post is all about what exactly went down at this packed presentation, along with some film photos, panel photos, and videos. Take a look!

For this San Diego Comic Con post, I am going to have to emphasize the word ‘unfortunate’, because it was very unfortunate that I could not make it to the panel for the animated series The Legend of Korra. A new season will be premiering in the fall and it is a great show that I am very much looking forward to. This Emmy-winning sequel series to the Emmy-winning Avatar: The Last Airbender was one of the best shows on TV last year. Not just as far as animated show go, but television in general. It combines incredibly well-animated action and settings with strong characters and very interesting concepts, all while being wholly appropriate for people of all ages. While I was not able to attend the panel, which actually screened the first episode of the upcoming season (Comic Con is just too incredibly busy of a time to see everything), I was able to find some highlights from the panel, which can be found below, along with some photos and a trailer for the upcoming season. Enjoy.

No Comic Con is complete without a little bit of weirdness on one of the panels and thankfully we had a new film from writer/director/Monty Python veteran Terry Gilliam to provide plenty of weirdness. The Zero Theorem is the latest project from the famed and eccentric director of films such as 12 Monkeys and Brazil. Occurring later in the afternoon on Thursday in Hall H, it was certainly a low-key but interesting panel to watch, as Gilliam makes very interesting films, which are sometimes a success and sometimes a mess. Here is the panel description: Appearing on stage to introduce the trailer, the first 10 minutes from the film and take your questions are producers Zev Foreman (Killer Joe), Dean Zanuck (Get Low) and Terry’s daughter Amy Gilliam (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus), who produced many of the commercials featured in the film. The panel will be moderated by Gina McIntyre of the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex. Read on to learn more about what went down on this panel as well as see some brand new photos from the film.

Although Fox never listed what was going to be covered during their Comic-Con panel this year, I knew I had to be there because I was pretty sure that The Wolverine would be included and I had a sneaky suspicion that we might get to see some X-Men: Days of Future Past footage. I was right on both counts, but there was still some big surprises in store. It was a panel that included a funny pickup line, the concept of a Wolverine Broadway musical, and some absolutely amazing footage that I was happy to see twice. Given all of the Star Wars news that didn’t happen at Comic Con this year, I may as well put out an article that has to deal with another movie about Harrison Ford and a war in the stars, so here it is. Summit Entertainment had a presentation that occurred in a packed Hall H for their big, upcoming films Ender’s Game and Divergent. For those not familiar, both films are based on incredibly popular books, with Ender’s Game, in particular, being a highly regarded novel that has been a much anticipated film adaptation for quite some time. I was happy to be at this packed panel, even if I still don’t know what Divergent is yet, exactly (I’ll do some catching up at some point), because any time you put grumpy ol’ Ford in front of thousands of geeks, fun can surely occur. Read on to learn more about what went down at this presentation and to view some clips, movie pics, and panel photos.

I’ve been there for every edge-of-your-seat moment, every kill, inside Dexter’s most intimate thoughts, watching him transform before my eyes. Now, after eight amazing seasons, it’s time to say goodbye to America’s Favorite Serial Killer and most importantly for me, I was finally able to see the show’s Comic-Con panel for the first and unfortunately the last time ever. I must say this will go down as one of the most exciting days of my life. Read on and see how it all went down Thursday evening in the massive Hall H at Comic-Con 2013 in beautiful downtown San Diego, CA. Hey Hey! Happy Hunger Games everyone! Many in line for the packed Hall H presentation on Saturday at San Diego Comic Con were very pumped to see what was next in the world of The Hunger Games, with knowledge that Lionsgate would be featuring a panel for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Fortunately, along with a description of the panel that I will provide, the brand new trailer for the film also hit the web today, making it much easier for me to show you, rather than tell. Still, if you would like to learn more about what went down at the panel, as well as check out the new trailer, and get a look at some photos from the panel, continue on reading or scrolling through this post.

Entering Ballroom 20 first thing in the morning, it’s clear that the majority of the fans nearby are not here for “American Dad”, “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy”. These are vamp-people and they are going to sit in this room all day waiting to see the cast of “True Blood”. The day before I attended a panel at Nerd HQ with Joe Manganiello, who plays Alcide the wolf. Joe handed out stickers with his face, height and weight on them. I used the sticker as a book mark and instantly drew a small crowd of curious wolf-lovers who were unable to see Joe. The number one question was “is he as big as he looks on television” and without hesitation I can honestly say he looks bigger. Saturday was a huge day for Hall H at San Diego Comic Con this year. To bring some up to speed, Hall H is the largest hall at the San Diego Convention Center and many of the biggest panels (now mainly dominated by movies and television) are scheduled within this location. There have been many big surprises and huge news revealed in Hall H in the past, but this year may just be one of the greatest and craziest days ever. I of course understand how hyperbolic that sounds, but given the number of announcements, the quality of all the footage shown, the energy coming from all the actors, producers, and directors on stage, and of course the energy coming from the crowd, it is hard to say that July 20th at Comic Con was something forgettable for those who waited hours to get into Hall H. One of the craziest announcements was that of a Batman/Superman movie being developed by WB, with director Zack Snyder and executive producer Christopher Nolan. Continue on to learn more about this big news.

Hall H’s second panel on Thursday was appropriately titled EW: The Visionaries and the idea behind it was to bring three prolific storytellers of the modern day together on a panel and discuss how they can take things in their head and make them real. The panel consisted of Amazing Spider-Man‘s Marc Webb, Gravity‘s Alfonso Cuaron and Shaun of the Dead‘s Edgar Wright. The panel tackled many themes and inherited challenges each of the three filmmakers tackle in their success and I tried my best to capture some of the highlights below. Enjoy! Welcome to the official kickoff of Comic-Con 2013 here in Hall H on Thursday, July 18th. Europa Report was the first panel to grace the beloved and expansive walls of Hall H. Things quickly started off with a “big bang” as the excited audience was greeted with a glimpse of the film’s trailer before the panel consisting of director Sebastian Cordero, composer Bear McCreary, producer Ben Browning, actress Karolina Wydra and JPL scientists Steve Vance and Kevin Hand were called out on the stage I hope to someday grace. A boy can dream, right? Astronomer Dr. Phil Platt moderated the panel. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2013: Europa Report’

Sam Kieth’s The Maxx was a runaway sensation when initially published. Kieth’s exquisite artistry and quirky stories resonated with readers who had never seen anything quite like it before. Exploring the strange relationship between two realities, The Maxx follows the dual identities of a man caught between the real world and a heroic fantasy realm called The Outback. The Maxx ran for more than 30 issues and inspired a popular animated show on MTV. Now, 20 years later, the striking series is returning to comic shops with fully re-mastered and re-colored printings of the classic stories, and all supervised by Kieth to ensure the highest possible quality. The Maxx: Maxximized will also feature brand-new painted covers by Kieth Additionally, IDW will—for the first time ever—release a series of hardcover Maxx collections. And if that wasn’t enough, there will also be Artist’s Editions enabling readers to finally see Sam’s beautiful and delicate line work as they never have before. Today I was lucky enough to get into this year’s hot ticket television panel – “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” where Marvel honcho and the show’s executive produce Jeph Loeb held court wearing a “Coulson Lives” t-shirt. He then introduced the writer-producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeff Bell, and then the show’s stars Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May), Ian De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Chloe Bennet (Skye), and Brett Dalton (Agent Grant Ward) with mastermind/writer/director Joss Whedon coming in last to thunderous applause. I’ve seen Joss Whedon a couple of times now, and he’s always a ton of fun on these panels but I was wondering just how much of the show we would get to see. Since the show doesn’t premiere until September I thought we might get to see some clips but once again Joss had a surprise up his sleeve… Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2013: “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” World Premiere’
