So here’s a film that I know connected with a lot of people that were able to see it in theaters and will probably connect with those who seek it out on Blu-ray, when it arrives this coming February. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a wonderful coming-of-age film, with nice performances all around, and it hits shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on February 12, 2013. It is a film based on the best-selling novel from author Stephen Chbosky, who actually wrote and directed the film as well. From the reaction it received, the film seems to be in line to take up the mantle as one of the best films about surviving in high school, akin to some of the work from John Hughes, among others (I’ll support Rushmore in this case). I know I certainly liked it (review HERE). From what I can tell, the Blu-ray does not seem to be lacking in more content to explore, regarding the film and those involved in bringing the novel to life. Read on to learn more about this upcoming Blu-ray release. Continue reading ‘Become Infinite With ‘THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER’ on Blu-ray & DVD on February 12th’

This is certain to excite a few people. While I am a Star Wars guy through and through, I certainly cannot deny that Star Trek is one of the things that will get the masses excited, especially now that J.J. Abrams had a hand in reinvigorating the franchise with his 2009 reboot. So for anyone asking themselves, “Hey, where’s the sequel at already?” here is the chance to find out what is in store for them, as a 9-minute sneak preview will be arriving in IMAX 3D theaters on December 14th. This should be especially nice for those already planning on seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on opening night, as they will be getting this special bonus with their film, much like how The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises were given the same treatment. The Star Trek footage will be the first 9 minutes of the highly anticipated film and it will be exclusively shown in Digital IMAX 3Dtheaters worldwide on that date. Continue on to find the full press release with all the details. Now Updated with the First Official Poster, Continue reading ‘‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Preview In IMAX This December’

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing and seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy. He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero. On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade. Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D in select theaters.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. From Disney and Pixar, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition and challenges destiny to change her fate. Brave follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources – including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers – to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, Brave is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor that audiences of all ages around the world have come to eagerly expect. On Saturday, October 20th, at LA Live Regal Cinema, John Carpenter was present at the 12th Annual Screamfest to receive a Career Achievement Award and to be a part of a Q&A before a screening of one of his films, The Prince of Darkness, which was celebrating its 25th Anniversary. John Carpenter has of course had a lengthy career, largely working on the outside of the Hollywood system to make movies on his own terms. He has also been responsible for several classics and game changers in the horror genre, including Halloween and The Thing. I was in attendance at the Q&A and managed to record all of it, which is posted in this article along with images of the 13 exclusive posters that were for sale at Screamfest on this day. Proceed further to hear this Q&A and check out the awesome posters that were on the scene. Continue reading ‘Screamfest 2012: John Carpenter Q&A And Original Artwork’

Opening night of Screamfest 2012, I was able to see the new horror film, The Collection. Horror fans may not have too much trouble remembering The Collector, which came out back in 2009, but others may struggle when realizing that The Collection is actually a sequel to that film. Now The Collection is not really a film that solely depends on knowledge from the previous entry and similarly it is a different sort of beast from the first film. The Collector was very much a cat and mouse thriller, set inside a house, which happened to incorporate a lot of deadly traps, labeling the film as a part of the ‘torture porn’ horror sub-genre. The Collection may have a similar setup, but this time the majority of the action is placed inside the hideout of the collector, which turns the film into more of a funhouse of horror traps and grizzly images, flipping the series on its head. It may or may not be worth your time, but it’s a mean, lean, horror flick that is a fun enough ride. Continue reading ‘Screamfest 2012: The Collection (Movie Review)’
