Here’s another film I just never had the chance to see, but may get a chance to in the near future. Here’s the official word: The provocative, untold true story of a murder involving three great poets – Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William S. Boroughs – unfolds when Sony Pictures Classics’ KILL YOUR DARLINGS becomes available March 18 on Bluray™* Combo Pack and Digital from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Directed by John Krokidas in his feature film debut, KILL YOUR DARLINGS premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival as Grand Jury Prize nominee. The film was also the official selection of the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals, taking home the Venice Days International Award. A true story of friendship, love and murder, KILL YOUR DARLINGS recounts the pivotal year that changed Allen Ginsberg’s life forever and provided the spark to start his creative revolution. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

Universal Studios is finally releasing two classics from their extensive vault in April. Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity and Orson Welles’ Touch Of Evil will both make their long overdue debuts on Blu-ray on April 15. Its kind of a bummer it takes classics like these so long to make the jump to the format, but they don’t seem to be much of the priority anymore and the more years tick by the further they tick from being of relevancy to general customers. But, when stuff like this finally does roll around, it’s very exciting for us collectors and film history appreciators. Both films will come in special edition type versions with multiple commentaries, features and two cuts of the film for Touch Of Evil. Below are the studio supplies the proper specs of the titles and you can pre-order now by clicking the Amazon link! Coming at you next month, from Phase 4 Films and XLrator Media is JAMESY BOY. This true story features notable acting vets James Woods, Mary Louise-Parker and Ving Rhames. It also sports the little Farmiga (Taissa) and a Black Eyed Pea (because everybody loves them). This seems to be the tale of a street thug who does some time and turns his life around inside the big house. I suppose what interested me in this is that I’ve always been a fan of James Woods and I’m also a big fan of Mary Louise-Parker. One can only hope this is a nice touching drama that is at least a solid story that is able to separate itself from many films that follow this common storyline and theme. There is no pre-order yet available for this title, but I’m sure one will appear very soon. It comes out the 25th of next month. Keep on reading for box art, the plot synopsis, cast list, a trailer and some other spec details regarding this release from Phase 4 Films and XLrator Media! You know you want to sing along, right? Well that’s good because all I heard were yeahs! So here’s the deal. More than 2000 theaters nationwide are staged to showcase the all-new sing-along version of Disney’s Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe-winning big-screen adventure Frozen, which I regretfully have not seen as of yet, beginning Jan. 31, 2014. But if you can’t wait another minute, check out the video below for a sneak peek of the fun. On-screen lyrics and a magical bouncing snowflake will accompany select showings; moviegoers can check local listings for showtimes and theaters. And in the meantime, place your pre-orders here for Frozen on Blu-ray! Continue reading ‘Sing Along With Disney’s Frozen Sing-Along Clip!’
Let’s face it, besides the Aliens box set years ago and the Universal Monsters one, in my opinion this may be one the greatest Blu-ray packages ever assembled, even though it’s repackage (although with a new transfer on the first film) of an earlier set. One may expect me to say that of the Star Wars Saga set put out a few years ago, but let’s admit the facts. There’s only one stinker in the Rocky franchise where there’s three in the Star Wars universe, right? Well, to be fair, they didn’t suck. But they weren’t that great either! Haha. So all in all, the story of Rocky and the films that follow in the franchise mean so much to me personally that I don’t think words can ever accurately describe my love and affinity for them. So I’ll let the press release below do the rest of the talking for this February 11th Blu-ray release! Continue reading ‘Go The Distance With The Rocky Heavyweight Collection on Blu-ray!’
When you bill something as a Sundance Horror Sensation or one of the best horror movies of the year, people tend to take notice. At least I do! So that’s why when my favorite PR person over at Anchor Bay sent me this email today I know I had to not only get news of this Blu-ray release up on the website as soon as possible, but also that of the film’s domestic trailer and theatrical poster (same as Blu-ray cover art). You see, before In Fear‘s March 11th release on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD, the movie will also get treated to exclusive U.S. theatrical engagements too. Check out the trailer and full press release below. Enjoy! Continue reading ‘Sundance Horror Sensation IN FEAR Scares On Blu-ray This March!’

Well, this is exciting if you’re a Troma fan. I tend to be, but a lot of the time I have to be in the right prepared mindset for a night of Troma goodness. I’ve seen the original Class Of Nuke ‘Em High and rather liked it. I even made a zombie short film in high school that referenced that title called Class Of Zombie High. Oddly, as much as I did enjoy the first one, I never made my way to see the sequel. Well, if I’m to be reviewing this one, I’m gonna have to brush up and finally visit this one. Return To Nuke ‘Em High, Vol. 1 marks the return to the director’s chair for Troma head honcho Lloyd Kaufman. I hope he’s not too rusty and can deliver some of the extra campy, super goofy goodness that rocked the straight-to-video market back in the hayday of Ma and Pa VHS rental stores. The film makes its Blu-ray debut (in a groovy green case and stellar poster art) on March 18. Below, Anchor Bay and Troma deliver you the dirty deets as well as a pre-order link. Continue reading ‘RETURN TO NUKE ‘EM HIGH, VOL. 1 Coming March 18 To Blu-ray!’
Here we go again. Brandon with the zombies. This one is a comedy actually touting the term “Zom-Com” in its promo materials. Zombies apparently come from the Chupacabra in this tale. Millennium is selling this as a buddy comedy with zombies thrown into the mix. Let’s just hope either the comedy or zombie kills work in this or I could be in for a brutal experience. The cast in the film has a bunch of people whose names don’t strike me as familiar, but I’m very familiar with a lot of the shows and movies they’ve been apart of. So I’m sure it’ll be an “oh yeah, that guy” type experience when we get introduced in this film. Buck Wild comes out on glorious Blu-ray on March 18, so get your pre-order guns ready and pull the trigger. Below the studio provides you with all the pertinent details as well as a plot summary! Continue reading ‘BUCK WILD: Hilarious “Zom-Com” Available On Blu-ray March 18!’
I can’t tell you how excited I am about this early retail announcement that just dropped in my mailbox courtesy of our Magnolia Home Entertainment PR person. Thank you! The reason for my excitement is because of the fact that my girlfriend has been asking to see this one ever since she saw the trailer for it on iTunes last year. For some reason or another we kept putting off watching this film, but that will all be forgotten history come this March as Magnolia has announced a March 4th Blu-ray release date for Last Day on Mars. Check out the full press release below for more information on this release! Continue reading ‘‘Last Day on Mars’ Lands on Blu-ray This March!’
There is a lot of anticipation building for Maleficent, the live-action take on the Sleeping Beauty story, told from the perspective of it’s infamous villain. I have liked what I have seen so far and now there is a new trailer, with a nice addition that seems quite fitting for the vibe of the film. Here’s what Disney had to say: A never-before-heard Lana Del Rey rendition of “Once Upon a Dream” was unveiled as part of a 90-second sneak peek of Disney’s Maleficent during the 56th Annual Grammy Awards® on Sunday, January 26. Maleficent releases in U.S. theaters on May 30, 2014. Continue on to check out this sneak peak learn how to download the song.

Scream Factory doesn’t release a whole lot of modern horror films, they pride themselves on being “Rated R for Retro”. So, when they do pick up and distribute something new, it gets my attention. Last year they released Dead Souls, Cockneys Vs Zombies and the anthology Chilling Visions: 5 Senses Of Fear. Their first new movie for 2014 will be Larry Fessenden’s Beneath. This looks to be a giant fish kills debaucherous teens type movie. While it may sound throwaway to some, I’ve heard a lot of good things about this film from very credible people in the horror field (writers, critics). So, I’ve had this one kind of on the radar. Scream Factory will be giving it its home video debut and supplying it with some extras on March 25th. As always, if you’re interested you can click the Amazon link below and support your fellow Why So Blu writer by pre-ordering. After the jump, Scream Factory provides you with all the specifics and nitty gritty details of their release of Beneath.
