The Dictator: Banned and Unrated on Blu-ray August 21st

The brilliant Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) “establishes a claim to be the best comic filmmaker now working” (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times) as Third World ruler Admiral General Aladeen in the “outrageously funny” (Rafer Guzman, Newsday) comedy THE DICTATOR, reigning supreme in an all-new Banned* & Unrated version debuting August 21, 2012 on Blu-ray with a Digital Copy, DVD (both with UltraViolet ™), On Demand and for Digital Download from Paramount Home Media Distribution. The hysterical tale of an inept despot’s first trip to America, THE DICTATOR “starts at outrageous and rockets on from there” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) as the leader of Wadiya is stripped of power and suddenly forced to live his ultimate nightmare…the American dream.  THE DICTATOR features an outstanding comedic ensemble including Anna Faris (Scary Movie), Ben Kingsley (Hugo), Jason Mantzoukas (“The League”), Chris Parnell (“30 Rock”), Bobby Lee (“MADtv”) and Jessica St. Clair (Bridesmaids). “My film is funnier than equal rights for women, as gut-busting as a UN resolution and more hilarious than watching a student set himself on fire.  Owning a copy of my glorious and award-winning** film will give you more pleasure than having Halle Berry rub almond oil into your buttocks while you stimulate her bint al-sahn with your mashloof…and it will cost you considerably less money,” said Admiral General Aladeen.  “Although my film was subjected to the infamous authoritarian censorship of the West, thanks to Blu-ray and DVD you can finally see all the really naughty bits.  I have your home address, so trust me, you WILL love it.”  Continue reading ‘The Dictator: Banned and Unrated on Blu-ray August 21st’

Behind-the-Scenes First Look at Spartacus: War of the Damned

Those that know me know that I’m a huge fan of the infamous Starz Original Series, Spartacus, but things changed a bit for me this year. Like George Washington, I cannot tell a lie. I severely missed not having Andy Whitfield filling that coveted role. But like all good things, everything comes to an end no matter if we like it or not. We just have to press on. There’s always hope and right now Starz, Liam and the cast and crew of third season, Spartacus: War of the Damned, is trying to provide just that as they take us on an exclusive behind-the-scenes first look at the making of the series’ final season. Wrangling fierce supernatural beasts is a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it! Teaming with artist Ibrahim Moustafa, Nilson and Pritchett are bringing THE POUND back for four issues of things that go bump in the night, featuring the brave (and exhausted) guys who chase them through Cleveland’s darkest corners. Getaway on Blu-ray to the ‘Cabin in the Woods’

A Q&A Discussion with Andy Parsons, Rich Marty, and Paul Erickson About Blu-rays and the Future

Yesterday I was invited to join a round-table discussion with some of the leaders of the Blu-ray industry to discuss  the evolution of the home entertainment market and how current technologies (Blu-ray Disc, digital steaming and downloads and disc-based digital extensions) complement one another to give consumers more flexibility and control over their content and viewing options than ever before.  The discussion was moderated by Andy Parsons, Chair, BDA US Promotions Committee who also hosted the Q&A panel that followed afterwards along with Rich Marty, Vice President for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Paul Erickson, Senior Analyst for IMS Research.  As you might expect, UltraViolet came up a lot in the discussion (including my own complaint about it) as well as hardware questions, 3D adoption and its market share, their thoughts on the future of the format, and a lot more.  There was even some talk about the upcoming Lawrence of Arabia Blu-ray release.  Read on for more details! Dark Horse Comics Collects Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’

Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and novelist Chuck Hogan bring their New York Times best-selling series of novels, the Strain Trilogy, to Dark Horse Comics with an ongoing adventure that takes a terrifying spin on the vampire genre. Renowned comics creator David Lapham (Stray Bullets, Silverfish) and artist Mike Huddleston (The Coffin, Butcher Baker) join forces in this comic book adaptation unlike any other—bringing del Toro and Hogan’s vision to life in a story that casts a deadly plague over the whole of humanity. The Strain Volume 1, collecting issues #1–#6 of this ongoing series, is a horror story unlike any other! When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Centers for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, calls in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event—an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.  Continue reading ‘Dark Horse Comics Collects Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’’

Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ Hits Theaters Christmas 2012

His name is Django.  The ‘D’ is silent.  Alright ramblers, lets get ramblin’.  If Brian can put up posts about the latest trailer for Step Up 4, then I guess I might as well put up a post about the latest from writer/director Quentin Tarantino.  Django Unchained hits theaters this Christmas and it is easily one of my most anticipated films of the year.  The film is a western (of sorts) that stars Academy Award winners Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz as a former slave and a German bounty hunter, who have teamed up to take down an evil plantation owner played by Leonardo DiCaprio.  Of course, this being a Tarantino film, expect plenty of other genre-defying antics to come up as well.  Continue on to see the first official trailer and some pictures from the upcoming film. Spaceballs 25th Anniversary Edition Arrives on Blu-ray August 7

I love Star Wars and I love Mel Brooks.  Spaceballs is not necessarily a favorite film of mine, but it is one that I can say I have easily watched more than most of the films I have owned over the years.  Now everyone gets a chance to celebrate it yet again in this upcoming Blu-ray release.  The farce is strong in the “uproarious salute to science fiction” (The Hollywood Reporter) when SPACEBALLS: 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION blasts off on Blu-ray August 7 from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  Comedy legend Mel Brooks leads an all-star cast of cutups including John Candy (Splash), Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters) and Bill Pullman (Ruthless People).  Read on to learn more about this upcoming Blu-ray release.
