For this San Diego Comic Con post, I am going to have to emphasize the word ‘unfortunate’, because it was very unfortunate that I could not make it to the panel for the animated series The Legend of Korra. A new season will be premiering in the fall and it is a great show that I am very much looking forward to. This Emmy-winning sequel series to the Emmy-winning Avatar: The Last Airbender was one of the best shows on TV last year. Not just as far as animated show go, but television in general. It combines incredibly well-animated action and settings with strong characters and very interesting concepts, all while being wholly appropriate for people of all ages. While I was not able to attend the panel, which actually screened the first episode of the upcoming season (Comic Con is just too incredibly busy of a time to see everything), I was able to find some highlights from the panel, which can be found below, along with some photos and a trailer for the upcoming season. Enjoy.

Today I was lucky enough to get into this year’s hot ticket television panel – “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” where Marvel honcho and the show’s executive produce Jeph Loeb held court wearing a “Coulson Lives” t-shirt. He then introduced the writer-producers Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeff Bell, and then the show’s stars Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Agent Melinda May), Ian De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons), Chloe Bennet (Skye), and Brett Dalton (Agent Grant Ward) with mastermind/writer/director Joss Whedon coming in last to thunderous applause. I’ve seen Joss Whedon a couple of times now, and he’s always a ton of fun on these panels but I was wondering just how much of the show we would get to see. Since the show doesn’t premiere until September I thought we might get to see some clips but once again Joss had a surprise up his sleeve… Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2013: “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” World Premiere’

Given the popularity of shows like
Game of Thrones and
Spartacus and the fact that we at Why So Blu are big fans of those shows,
Vikings is a series that I would have been happy to get into, were I to have had the time. I am quite pleased that I am now going to have the chance, as it arrives on Blu-ray on October 15th. I have heard good things about this series and it looks intriguing enough, so hopefully it will be as compelling as some of these other similar series have been. One thing is for sure, the Blu-ray is packed with extras, which is always a plus. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

Breathtaking in scope and scale, The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. This historic television event is sure to entertain and inspire millions across the globe. Narrated by Emmy winning actor Keith David, The Bible features a stunning international cast including Portuguese actor, Diogo Morgado as Jesus Christ and beloved actress, Roma Downey as Mother Mary. And for the first time since their award winning collaboration on Gladiator, Oscar and Grammy winning composer Hans Zimmer reunites with acclaimed vocalist Lisa Gerrard to create the majestic musical backdrop for this epic production. The four-disc Blu-ray and DVD set dives deeper into the making of the series and features a behind-the-scenes look at how the groundbreaking docudrama came together. Interviews with producers, directors, and cast illustrate creative collaboration on-set and off and show how the remarkable Moroccan scenery was transformed into the world of the Bible. Here is a double-dose of Blu-ray news for comedies from the FX network (soon to be seen on FXX). It’s Always Sunny I Philadelphia Season 8 and The League Season 4 both hit shelves on September 10th. For those unaware, ‘Sunny’ follows the insane and hilarious shenanigans of four friends and Danny DeVito (probably the best way to address this group), who own a bar in Philadelphia. The League is one of my favorite comedies on TV right now and anyone worried that it is all about football should put that thought to rest. It is about a group of friends that participate in a fantasy football league, yes, but actual football knowledge is never the focus (I don’t watch football and I love this show), as things are more focused on these guys and gal having fun at each other’s expense. Regardless, you can read on to learn more about these upcoming releases.

A vampire civil war is brewing and an old vampire foe has returned to wreak havoc on the human race. Meanwhile, the denizens of Bon Temps are approaching a new crisis with Russell Edgington, Bill and Eric are in deep with the Authority and new threats from unexpected sources loom. Although I am a die hard “True Blood” fan, over the last four seasons I have had my share of complaints about the show. For example, I would prefer less werewolves, fairies, and other supernatural creatures. Often this vampire show needs more vampire action. I’ve been waiting to see the vamps turn on the humans, and show their true nature. Even more importantly, I’ve been waiting for the Authority to really show it’s teeth. Season five is definitely the season of the Authority, but the whole story line was fairly disappointing. Season four ended with an unexpected death that actually caught me off guard, and left me dying to see what happened next. What happened next was underwhelming – however, the characters Eric, Alcide and Jason take off their clothes enough that it’s still enjoyable for me. John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan rose from obscurity and in the process built modern America. Their names hang on street signs, are etched into buildings and are a part of the fabric of history. These men created the American Dream and were the engine of capitalism as they transformed everything they touched in building the oil, rail, steel, shipping, automobile and finance industries. Their paths crossed repeatedly as they elected presidents, set economic policies and influenced major events of the 50 most formative years this country has ever known. From the Civil War to the Great Depression and World War I, they led the way. Using state of the art computer generated imagery that incorporates 12 million historical negatives, many made available for the first time by the Library of Congress, this series will bring back to life the world they knew and the one they created. The event series will show how these men took a failed experiment in democracy and created the greatest superpower the world has ever seen. We see how their historic achievements came to create the America of today.

From the creative team behind “Pillars of the Earth,” “The Mentalist” and “Heroes”, “Being Human” is Syfy’s re-imagining of the acclaimed UK series created by Toby Whithouse (now in its fifth season overseas). Starring Sam Witwer (“Smallville”, “Battlestar Galactica”), Meaghan Rath (“The Assistants”) and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns), “Being Human” follows three paranormal, 20-something roommates living in a Boston brownstone – vampire “Aidan” (Witwer), werewolf “Josh” (Huntington) and ghost “Sally” (Rath) – as they struggle to resist the temptations of their true natures. Watching the characters hide their dark secrets from the world, while helping each other navigate the complexities of living double lives and trying to be human has made the series a supernatural smash. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the comedy team behind the Golden Globe-winning BBC series “The Office” and acclaimed HBO series “Extras” and “The Ricky Gervais Show”, bring another series to television with “Life’s Too Short”. Starring actor Warwick Davis (Willow) as a fictionalized version of himself, the series takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the travails of a little person who’s big on ego and a little short on everything else. Shot faux-documentary style, “Life’s Too Short” gleefully charts Davis’s every move as he tries to jump-start his waning career by opening his doors to a reality TV film crew while trying to maintain his pride and self-respect in a series of uncomfortable, often-humiliating situations. Along the way, he seeks advice from his old pals Gervais and Merchant (playing versions of themselves) in hopes that their A-list celebrity connections including Johnny Depp, Liam Neeson, Sting, Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Carell, Cat Deely (who all cameo) will aid his career.
