Danny Collins is the kind of film that is easy to watch for adult audiences in need of some simple fun with actors they enjoy. Al Pacino gets a chance to ease back on the throttle a bit and just be an entertaining presence in a film about an aging rock star looking for redemption. The film was in limited release for a couple months back in the spring, but now it is available on Blu-ray for more people to discover. It is a good thing too, as this is a really likable film.

Rosanna Arquette (After Hours) and Vincent Spano (Rumblefish) star in writer/director John Sayles’ romantic-drama, Baby It’s You. Set in 1966 New Jersey, middle-class high school senior Jill (Arquette) finds herself inexplicably drawn to a suave, blue collar bad boy (and aspiring singer) known as “The Sheik” (Spano). Exuding mystery and danger, “The Sheik” woos Jill until she succumbs to his charms, which baffles her friends and horrifies her parents and teachers. Baby It’s You recounts the ups and downs of the lead characters from young love to hook-ups & break-ups to college life and the toll of unfulfilled dreams. With his extraordinary ear for dialog, John Sayles (Lone Star, Eight Men Out, Return of the Secaucus 7) fashions a period piece with contemporary relevance. Featured in supporting roles are Tracy Pollan (TV’s Family Ties), Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket) and Fisher Stevens (Short Circuit). Continue reading ‘Baby, It’s You (Blu-ray Review)’

The gritty urban drama Street Smart is directed by Jerry Schatzberg (Scarecrow, The Panic In Needle Park), from a screenplay by David Freeman, starring Christopher Reeve (Superman, John Carpenter’s Village of the Damned) and Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby, Deep Impact, The LEGO Movie). And it co-stars Kathy Baker (Clean and Sober, The Glass House), Mimi Rogers (The Rapture, Someone To Watch Over Me), Andre Gregory (My Dinner With Andre, The Last Temptation of Christ), Rick Aviles (Carlito’s Way, Ghost) and Jay Patterson (A Million Ways To Die In The West, City of Angels). I had never heard of this film, and it was a neat opportunity to see Christopher Reeve in a film that was new to me at least. It also features him in a very meaty and interesting role on top of that. Criminal Law stars Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight trilogy, Air Force One, True Romance) and Kevin Bacon (TV’s The Following, Footloose, Friday The 13th, X-Men: First Class). The film co-stars Tess Harper (Tender Mercies), Karen Young (9 1/2 Weeks) and Joe Don Baker (Walking Tall) in a film directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) from a screenplay written by Mark Kasdan. As a huge fan of GoldenEye, Casino Royale and Zorro, making me a Campbell supporter when it comes to practical based films (We all know how he did when he ventured into space with Ryan Reynolds to give us the less than favorable Green Lantern), I was eager to dig into this early thriller of his that I had never seen before. I’m not sure this trailer first shown at Comic-Con really needs no introduction? The verbiage in this first paragraph should just say click and watch me! Haha! Of course I’m talking about David Ayer’s much-anticipated Suicide Squad which hits theaters August 5, 2016 and stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Viola Davis. The film takes place obviously in DC’s new superhero universe. Come on! Click down below to get this party started and for crying out loud, get jiggy with it! Deadpool took the stage to arguably the loudest reaction yet. Director Tim Miller was there, along with Ryan Reynolds, TJ Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Gina Carano, and everyone’s favorite Transporter, Ed Skrein. The panel was introduced by a clip of Deadpool in a lounge chair, saying “From the studio that inexplicably sewed his fucking mouth shut.” When everyone finally took the stage, it quickly snowballed into the most vulgar panel of the entire convention. And it worked perfectly.

We didn’t get to see this because you have to sacrifice parts of your soul to be in Hall H all day. This is the time where I wish I was Hermione Granger with her god-damned time-turner, it’s all about encasing that hour-reversal charm for added stability. Alas, with fresh baby deer eyes I watched the Ash VS. Evil Dead trailer this morning and immediately squirmed in delight while simultaneously planning the best-ever-halloween-slash-Ash VS. Evil Dead-party extravaganza for it’s premiere on October 31st 2015. It will be the best this Halloween. This trailer is action packed along with sprinkles of dark comedy. A little light with the dark is always well suited and it certainly doesn’t skip out on the gore. There was a lot of blood in this trailer, on faces, in cars, all over. With fast cuts galore it is visually a blast from the past. Here’s the trailer:

Nothing but spectacular doom and gloom. Watching this in Hall H was one hell of an experience. The cast came out, all bright smiles except for Affleck. His parents were killed when he was a child, after all. Can you blame him? Or maybe it’s the divorce. When discussing the great actors who have played Batman, he mentioned George Clooney but didn’t mention Val Kilmer. I’m sure it was a simple flub. Or he was curious as to how many nerds would stroke out.

During a panel today at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed brand new details and never-before-seen imagery and video from LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, the first game to feature characters and storylines from Marvel’s The Avengers, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and more. As part of the panel presentation, Comic-Con favorite Stan Lee took to the stage to discuss his involvement in LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, including the reveal of his very own Iron Man armor and a Stan Lee-inspired Hulkbuster suit called the Stan-Buster! Other characters revealed during the panel include Sam Wilson as Captain America, America Chavez and the diabolical super villain Crossbones. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2015: LEGO Marvel’s Avengers’

Aisha Tyler moderated the Warner Bros The Man From U.N.C.L.E. panel, which kicked off with a video introduction from Guy Ritchie, who is currently in Scotland filming his King Arthur film. It was a lighthearted series of intro bloopers, with Ritchie fumbling over the names of his cast. In attendance was Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, and Elizabeth Debicki. There was an extended trailer shown, which still unfortunately looks dull. Look, I love Guy Ritchie and I always hope for the best, so I’m crossing my fingers that the film will be better than all the trailers I’ve seen. This Comic-Con trailer just adds more explosions, but I was hoping for more clips of Cavill and Hammer verbally sparing, something Richie excels in.

We’ll soon be getting the full scoop from Jordan and Kaitlin Grout of everything that went down in Warner Bros. Hall H presentation for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but for now I just wanted all our readers to be able to marvel (no pun intend) and bask in the glory of everything the newest trailer, released online in the past hour, has to offer us minions and geeks on Earth. This certainly comes full circle and appears to nicely tie in with the events of Man of Steel, doesn’t it? Don’t know what I’m talking about? Then watch the trailer already embedded below for your viewing pleasure. You finally get to see Wonder Woman in action! Enjoy!
