Pulp Fiction (Blu-ray Review)

A pair of low-rent hit men, Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), are sent out to collect a stolen briefcase for their mob boss employer, Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Having proven himself worthy, Wallace then entrusts Vincent to entertain his wife, Mia (Uma Thurman), while he is out of town. Meanwhile, […]

Hostage (Blu-ray Review)

If there were any justice in the world, I’d be able to publish a five-word review for Florent Emilio Siri’s Hostage.  That review would read, “What a piece of crap”.  But– as we all know– there is no justice in the world, and as such, I will now spend the next fifteen to twenty minutes […]

Robert Rodriguez Presents “The Black Mamba”

I’m not a big sports fan, but when it comes to Robert Rodriguez and his many projects, that’s a totally different story.  Nike and Robert Rodriguez present Kobe Bryant (yes, Kobe Bryant) in The Black Mamba. I initially found out about this when our very own Aaron Neuwirth sent me the teaser trailer a couple […]

Aaron’s Top 10 Best and Worst Films of 2010

It’s the end of 2010, and with that I have a list of my favorite movies. The following list contains all of the films that I felt defined what I seek out in most films; namely that they have elements of entertainment, intrigue, or master craftsmanship when it comes to the filmmaking. Some may only have a few of these aspects covered, others may have all three bases dominated. Given my lengthy honorable mention section, there were certainly a good number of films that I had to choose from, but this list, I feel, represents the best of what 2010 had to offer theatrically:

RED – Reasonable Elderly Delight

A decent action comedy that I feel is going to get more love from general audiences than I had for it.  I certainly enjoyed the movie overall, thanks to its casting and a couple of fun action scenes, but something about this film’s energy just did not hold up well throughout.  While based on a […]

Put Some Cheesy Faith Into ‘The Expendables’

Leading up to the release of The Expendables, the main joy came from the fact that Sylvester Stallone had managed to pull together a ton of action stars, from multiple decades, all in for one seemingly cheesy action movie.  While the film certainly delivered in that respect, I found the overall result to be more […]

The Expendables Delivers Fun Action, Little Else

I think when every red-blooded male heard that Sylvester Stallone was putting together a film that contained some of the most popular action stars from the 80’s and today, they got all googly-eyed as if they had just seen the gates of cinema heaven.  I should know.  I was one of them. It wasn’t long […]

Comic-Con 2010: Summit Entertainment’s RED

In case you are in the dark like I was, RED stands for “Retired Extremely Dangerous.”  It’s kind of a fitting title for this coming of age ex-CIA action comedy vehicle.  The panel of actors, consisting of Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Helen Mirren and Karl Urban (Star Trek), sat down with writer Warren Ellis […]

Comic-Con 2010: The Expendables

This was the panel I came to San Diego for.  If there was one Comic-Con 2010 panel I was not going to miss, it was this one.  It would be the chance for me to see my favorite childhood action hero in real life, Slyvester Stallone, and I was not going to miss it for […]

Get Your Glock Out for ‘Cop Out’ on Blu-ray!

Before anyone goes bad mouthing this comedy I just wanted to go on record by saying it wasn’t that bad.  I think Death at a Funeral had me laughing harder than this one did, but considering what we have to work with so far this year, Cop Out stands out amongst the best of the […]

Don’t “Cop Out” of Seeing This!

Shutter Island may have been the best movie I have screened so far this year, but Cop Out was by far the most fun I have had at the theater in 2010.  It’s laugh out loud hysterical at times and rather cliché at others, but there’s no doubt that the film strictly adheres to the […]

The Daily Blu…October 28, 2009 – BIGGIE SIZED!

We have an enormous amount of Blu-ray announcements to make today so put your seatbelt on as I accelerate the Blu-ray bus with no precaution.  I have announcements from just about every major studio today so let’s start with my favorite news of the day from Fox.  The Diablo Cody horror/quirky comedy Juno II, sorry […]
