Continue after the jump to see what this spooky little project has to offer and click on the various links that will transport you to the actual campaign page. With our powers combined….  Continue reading ‘Kickstarter: ‘The Little Book of Horrors’ by Paul Yoshida’

Lit: The View From the Bottom (CD Review)

Oh boy, I sound like a teenage female fan whooping and hollering for my favorite band to get up on that stage and rock my socks off. Well, I’m neither a female, and I’m only sort of whooping and hollering, because guys don’t tend to whoop and holler. Or do they?  You see, I just finished listening to Lit’s album of brand new recorded material in eight years, which is a milestone unto itself. If you know me personally you know that I’ve been a fan of the band for a long time. Hey, I don’t just grow banded goatees for nothing. There’s a purpose behind it, but that’s another story altogether. It’s just really great to have the guys back in the saddle again after many years on the down low. Not that they were ever gone, but new material would not be forthcoming until now. It’s time to review The View From the Bottom, so grab your drink of choice, sit back, and enjoy yourselves.  Continue reading ‘Lit: The View From the Bottom (CD Review)’

Gerard’s Top 10 FILMS of 2011

As promised, here is my Top 10 FILM list for 2011. I actually had to scramble in compiling this list, because there was one movie that I needed to see before my deadline and I was confident that it would go on my list. Did it, though? That’s what you’re going to have to read to find out. These films are all films that opened in limited or wide release, but that exhibited in 2011. Not all of these films were actually seen at the theater, some were seen on Blu-ray – the point is that they were all seen this. year. With that out of the way, enjoy what I have to offer you in my Top 10 list of 2011 at Why So Blu.    Continue reading ‘Gerard’s Top 10 FILMS of 2011′

Gerard’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2011

Once again, the wrecking crew here at Why So Blu have come together to bring you our top 10 favorite Blu-rays of the year. Please keep in mind that we’re in the second week of December, so we will not be including Blu-rays that are scheduled to come out in the next two weeks. We would also like to remind folks that this is our personal list of favorites, so please don’t take offense if you don’t see something you like. My top 10 Blu-ray list of films range in topics that consist of horror, pain, suffering, and the human condition. Life isn’t always lollipops and rainbows, but the redeeming quality of the subject matter is that all of the films that I have picked have an entertainment factor to them. That’s the criteria that I’ve used in picking my favorite Blu-rays of the year, and some are also imports, so if you have a region free player then you can snag some of these Blu-rays and enjoy them immediately. Have fun and stay tuned for my top 10 films of 2011 coming next week!   Continue reading ‘Gerard’s Top 10 Blu-rays of 2011′

Lit: HOB Anaheim 10 Year Anniversary Series (Review)

You know you’re getting old when you can remember where you were ten years ago.  Me, I was at the grand opening of the House of Blues in Anaheim in Downtown Disney.  Why was I there?  Lit was there.  Lit were opening up the venue with two sold out shows Friday and Saturday night.  If memory serves me correctly.  I was there and so was my entourage.  It was a great double header and kicked off what would be one of the more popular and intimate venues for live music in Orange County.  Fast forward this to the 10th Anniversary, and here we are.   Continue reading ‘Lit: HOB Anaheim 10 Year Anniversary Series (Review)’

Viva Machete!

“They f****d with the wrong Mexican!” You ain’t never lied!  Chopped straight from the pages of Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror comes the tale of the man, the myth, the MACHETE! Featuring an all-star cast that include: Danny Trejo, Robert DeNiro, Jessica Alba, Jeff Fahey, Michelle Rodriguez, Don Johnson, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Seagal, and Cheech Marin, the film continues the tradition (at least in 2010) of eclectic casting (The Expendables and RED come to mind).  I was honored to have had a chance to screen the film before audiences and nearly had a stroke in doing so.  Machete kicked my butt! Continue reading ‘Viva Machete!’

Albums That Changed Us – Gerard’s Picks

four_devil_hornsEvery once in a great while we’ll get one of those projects that we just can’t wait to devour.  This be that kind of project.  Three albums that changed us?  It was kind of hard at first, but I feel that I was able to come through with my picks loud and clear.  Funny enough, all three of my choices were discovered on or around the same time.  Same decade, for sure.
