Drive Angry has made this Nicolas Cage fan very angry. I’m angry at Nicolas Cage for seemingly being unable or unwilling to turn down a movie role. Listening to the audio commentary, the director says Nicolas Cage read the script and said “I have to do this movie.” Saturday Night Live (SNL) does a skit called “Get In the Cage” where they make fun of Nicolas Cage for exactly this reason. In the SNL parody, Nicolas Cage interviews big movie stars and always asks “why am I not in that movie.” I’m starting to accept the fact that SNL has got it right, and that makes me a little sad. Walt Disney Studios has just released Gnomeo & Juliet on Blu-ray 3-D, Blu-ray 2D, DVD and digital download. I was lucky enough to receive the 3-Disc Combo Pack which includes all of the options I just listed. There is also a Two Disc Blu-ray Combo pack and One Disc DVD available.
The dictionary defines cute as pleasantly attractive, in a delicate way; said of children, young ladies, pet animals and some objects, but seldom of adults. Gnomeo & Juliet could easily be the new poster child for cuteness. Continue reading ‘Gnomeo & Juliet 2D/3D (Blu-ray Review)’

Disney took a huge gamble in 1982 when they released TRON into the marketplace. It was so unlike anything else, that it never found an audience worthy of its ambition. For most movies, that would have been the end of it, with no chance of redemption or an ongoing franchise. Then a couple of things happened. The world changed and people as a whole became more technologically savvy and open to a film that is so focused on an electronic world.

Tangled marks Walt Disney’s 50th animated feature film and it’s a fitting choice since it seems to bridge the company’s legendary legacy of traditional animation with the new focus on computer animation. Although the film is entirely CGI, Disney has perfected it so well that it’s taken what worked traditionally and integrated it into computer animation seamlessly. If you are a fan of The History Channel’s series “The Universe,” you may have seen this segment during Season 5’s run. The difference between the episode on this disc and the one on the Season 5 set is that this one is in both 2D and 3D whereas the season set only offers the 2D version. For those of you that aren’t aware of the show, it’s a documentary series that premiered in 2007 on The History Channel that explains astronomical concepts and objects through the use of computer generated graphics and a group of experts whose expertise includes astronomy, cosmology, and astrophysics. I’ve seen and enjoyed the first movie in the Step Up franchise but I was not aware that a sequel was ever made until Step Up 3 was released. The first and the third movies don’t have much in common, except for one character I noticed, and a lot of dancing. A google search tells me that Step Up 3 carries over characters from Step up 2: The Streets. Despite not having not seen the second film, I did not feel I was lost as Step Up 3 works well as a stand alone movie. Continue reading ‘Step Up 3 2D/3D (Blu-ray Review)’
