Men (Blu-ray Review)

Alex Garland is one of our most interesting and hungry filmmakers working today. If he makes a movie, no matter your thoughts on the trailer or plot synopsis, you buy a ticket and you go. So far, so good. His latest, Men, came out at the start of the summer was met probably with the most mixed of his reviews and not much to brag about in box office receipts. Nonetheless, like his previous film Annihilation, perhaps people will find it or appreciate it after its too late. Lionsgate is bringing out to standard Blu-ray on August 9th. It comes only with one featurette in addition to the DVD version and digital copy. Perhaps a 4K upgrade could be in the cards down the road, but this looks to be it for now. You can order yourself a copy using the paid Amazon Associates link that follows the review down below at the bottom of this page.

Edge Of Tomorrow (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

Edge of Tomorrow was a film we all couldn’t shut up about 8 years ago. We were all debating on how better it could have been marketed or released with the studio even going by a tagline more than its title when it first came to home video. Nonetheless, its live to be a sort of modern cult film in that people loved it but not enough people ever really saw it. And it must be such a well doer on home video as Warner Bros has put it out on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray. Released on July 5th, it has a new Atmos track and comes with all the bonus feature that had been released on the prior Blu-ray. If you’d like to own yourself a copy of Edge of Tomorrow, you can use the paid Amazon Associates link that follows the review.

Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 2 (Blu-ray Review)

Paramount+ has been overloading us with Star Trek shows since back when it was called CBS All Access. Year round there is some Star Trek show currently putting out new episodes and sometimes they’ve even had themselves some overlap. However, the one with the least amount of stakes and one with loads of light-hearted and deep Trek enjoyability has been the Adult Swim-ish Lower Decks. The animated sensation’s second season will be coming to Blu-ray on July 12th and will include multiple featurettes that go over specific episode details, as well as full on season overview. You can pre-order yourself a copy now to have when it arrives next week by using the paid Amazon Associates link that follows the review.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

The Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them (or Fantastic Beasts) series of adventures to continue the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, while ducking in to the events prior to the flagship story, hasn’t caught on as the folks behind them probably would have hoped for. The first film was generally received well, but its sequel seemed to fall off for most audiences. The Secrets of Dumbledore is attempt to both right the ship and to tie things up a bit in case the ship is too far underwater to get ashore. Warner Brothers is putting it out on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray with an Atmos track and a nice array of bonus features on June 28th. The Bad Guys – Collector’s Edition (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)

The Bad Guys has been a series with me for a few years, having younger ones. My son has been into it for quite a while and when it came to the movie coming out I got to be a “I know what this is” asset to my film friends who had no idea where this animated flick was coming from. And it release to solid reviews which, knowing the source material, didn’t surprise me as it had them. Now its come home to 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray where it can continue to find audience. They are touting this as a Collector’s Edition primarily based on the fact it includes a brand new short as a bonus feature. The disc was released on June 21st, so you can order it now as you see fit. You can use the paid Amazon Associates link that follows the review if you’d like as well.

Boomerang (Blu-ray Review)

Eddie Murphy’s 1992 romantic dramedy film Boomerang is one I’ve been eagerly awaiting a Blu-ray debut for over the years. Its pretty star studded and one of his best “I’m kind of the straight man now, no longer the goofball” movies of his that he would go on to do throughout the 90s. Paramount is finally putting the film (along with the Richard Pryor team up Harlem Nights) on Blu-ray on June 28th. The film will come with some deleted scenes and a commentary form its director. You can pre-order yourself a copy of the flick, which is super cheap for day one pricing, by using the paid Amazon Associates link that follows this very review. Boomerang is a film I hope people take to revisiting with its 30th anniversary approaching and maybe they (or you) can do so with this brand new Blu-ray edition.

‘The Saphead’ on Blu-ray Aug. 22!

Saphead Blu-rayIn 1920, having served a slapstick apprenticeship in the shorts of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, Buster Keaton had earned the opportunity to headline his own series of two-reel comedies. Keaton stars as Bertie Van Alstyne, the pampered son of a powerful Wall Street financier (William H. Crane). Having known no other lifestyle but privilege, he wanders through a variety of misadventures―an attempt at courtship, a trip to an illegal gambling den, and a tumble onto the floor of the Stock Exchange―oblivious to the obstacles that stand before him.
