Hot on the Hanna-Barbara train, Warner Bros Archive Collection is releasing Josie and the Pussycats: The Complete Series to Blu-ray. You’ll remember over the last few weeks we’ve seen Space Ghost and Dino Boy and The Flintstones complete series collections make the Blu-ray jump. Naturally, here come Josie and the Pussycats. Now, this is just the original run of the series and does no include any episodes from Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space which was the show’s rebranded second year. These 16 episodes are on a 2-disc set and have a nice little pair of legacy bonus features intact. The release date for this was November 3rd, so you can order it right now from Warner Archive Collection or by using the paid Amazon Associates link following the end of the review. Here’s hoping they DO go forth and do the Outer Space season very soon.

Remember, remember the fifth of November. Warner Bros is also asking you this year to also remember, remember the third of November. That’s when they are releasing the very popular V For Vendetta onto 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray for the first time. The Natalie Portman-starring, Wachowski-produced adaptation of the popular graphic novel is getting a nice upgrade to a native 4K picture quality and dynamic Atmos sound. They’re not stopping there, as three new bonus features are being brought to home video for the first time. You get a new sit down conversation with producer Lana Wachowski and director James McTeigue, Natalie Portman’s audition tape and a vintage making of feature from around the time the film came out. There are also different editions of this release, but this review covers the standard one. V for Vendetta on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray is available now and can be ordered using the paid Amazon Associates link below.

I really wanted to see Antebellum when it came out, but I wasn’t frisky enough to head to the drive-in and the price tag on the rental for something I knew I’d probably be reviewing in a few short months was a bit high. Nonetheless, here it is and on a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray disc release nonetheless. Good things really come to those who wait. Lionsgate releases the film on November 3rd and its a surprisingly loaded with some quality bonus material (Feature length documentary) and Atmos sound. If you’re going to take it in at home, this is quite the way to be able to do so. The film has proven quite divisive, but trusted colleagues of mine have been on the minority end of it and loved the movie, so I’m optimistic going in. How’d it turn out? Well, you don’t usually find that out in the intro paragraph, but you’re not far from knowing. Its out now, and you can pre-order yourself a copy of this 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray edition of Antebellum by clicking the paid Amazon link following the review.

Still there is plenty to be excited about. We are about to enter that weird late December through February period where the studios aren’t going overboard after their big holiday releases hangover. Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection is going to be one very unorthodox 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review. You want to know why? I hope you do as I didn’t just set that up for nothing. It’s simply because this one whopping big box set that houses a total of 33 Discs (23 BD-100s, 7 BD-66s, 3 BD-50s). Wow! That encompasses all 8 seasons of the hit HBO show that plays across 73 episodes, which equates to roughly 75 hours. If that’s not enough, there’s also 15 hours of extras packed within this set. Now do you know why I say this isn’t your average 4K Disc review? I hope so. And rest assured I’m going to do my best to cover everything you’ll find here, but I’m only a mere mortal. You’ll have to forgive me as I’m not going to be able to go through all of this. Thankfully I have covered every Blu-ray release of the show so there’s that and I’ll be providing you pertinent URL links to all the coverage so you won’t miss a beat here. On top of it all you can also bank on my unboxing photos. I told you I have you covered! Continue reading ‘Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)’

The sequel to Back To The Future is a rare one that for some even eclipses the original. There is a new story with a somewhat familiar premise, but overall has a different feel to the original. The stakes as always are higher, and the cliffhanger ending is one that made the film’s fans crazy for the next installment. If ever there was a reliable franchise, Back To The Future was it. Check out more in depth on Back to the Future Part IIbelow and be sure to click the (Paid) links below to get your copy of this incredible set!

One of the most banner years for cinema was 1999. There were so many great and notable releases in that year that its pretty unbelievable to take in. Liam Neeson happened to be in two big releases that summer. Unfortunately for him, they happened to be two films that weren’t very well received. In addition to Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Neeson also starred in Jan de Bont’s reimaginging of The Haunting of Hill House and Robert Wise’s 1963 film of the same title. Paramount Presents asks that we take another look at this film, twenty one years later, as they debut it for the first time on Blu-ray as part of the Paramount Presents collection. On top of having a new transfer, the film will also feature a brand new interview with director Jan de Bont. It arrives just in time for some Halloween viewing on October 20. You can order yourself a copy using the paid Amazon Associates link at the end of the review.

Turning five years old this year, Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash has received a home video upgrade by moving to 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray. The film was an Oscar darling, garnering five nominations in big categories. It landed J.K. Simmons a Best Supporting Actor win, which was basically his to lose the entire awards season. One of the most fun bits of trivia is that Whiplash is also a Blumhouse film. You could argue that J.K. Simmons IS quite scary in it if you wanted to. Sony will be giving this a 4K make-over and a new Dolby Atmos track for this release. Extras are the same as its the previous Blu-ray disc that’s included. The film will also come with a digital copy code. Sony released it on September 22nd, so its available to order now. You can use the paid Amazon Associates link at the bottom of this review to do so, if you’d like.

District 9 has been called a lot of things over the years. It has been said that the movie will blow your mind and that it is a must see movie. Harry Knowles of Aint It Cool News once went on record as saying he was mind f*#ked by the movie. Heck, when last checked today, the film still holds a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. I remember my first viewing with it. I didn’t really care for it. However, I fell in love with it after only a second watch. It is gut wrenching to watch though. I’m a sucker for feeling terrible the way the aliens within are treated. So I am going to spend the next several paragraphs giving you a quick history lesson about District 9 and convincingly try to explain why your mileage may vary with this one. It’s not for everyone.

Adaptation was a big deal in 2002, following the well lauded Being John Malkovich. The Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman combination went to bat again. Though it wasn’t nominated for Best Picture or Director, it had a good presence in major categories with Best Adapted Screenplay (Charlie Kaufman), Best Actor (Nicolas Cage) and Best Supporting Actress (Meryl Streep) nominations. Chris Cooper took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this movie. Shout Select is adding the film to their line. No, its not getting a collector’s edition or even a new transfer. They are, however, bringing back some old features that didn’t make the original Blu-ray (From the DVD) and adding an image gallery for the film. You can pre-order this edition by using the paid Amazon Associates link following the review. Shout! Factory has Adaptation slated for release on October 27th.
