Thanks Jimmy Kimel? Those are not words I use often, but hey, the man (well technically his show) is responsible for releasing the debut trailer for the upcoming Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy. This obscure Marvel comic property is the biggest risk Marvel Studios has taken since basically Iron Man, when Marvel pretty much started making their own movies. ‘Guardians‘ may be a bit of a trickier feat to pull off, given the mixed amount of star power in this cast, the darkly comedic/quirky style of former Troma director James Gunn, and the very premise, which may not be as easy to stomach as Robert Downey Jr. building a metal suit in a grounded reality. All of that said, all of the ingredients in this film have me excited by said risk and the ambition involved. Now we have the first full trailer, which at least does a good job of teasing the tone of the film. We have several months to see the end results, but I am no less excited for this movie. I was able to check this one out this past Saturday night before leaving for Cupertino. Admittedly so, I had a pretty good time with it. I was obviously drawn to it by the flick’s cover art (I’m talking the film’s theatrical poster) and promise of what’s inside, but more so because of my involvement with it at AFM a few years back when I was first introduced to the concept. I thought I could easily get on board with this one and rightfully so I was able to. So check it out. Here’s one of those “Oscar rush” December movies that I missed out on back in December. And as it ended up, this one didn’t quite make the noise some thought it might have come nomination time. So, it looks like I made the right call on waiting for this one. And I won’t have to wait that much longer. Disney has announced that it will be hitting the Blu-ray format on March 18th. If you’re not familiar with Saving Mr. Banks, it stars Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in much praised roles and tells the tale of making Mary Poppins. Believe it or not, I’ve been looking forward to this one, as its been getting some good acclaim and buzz from people I do trust. It’s Jean Claude Van Damme in an adventure comedy, and after that car commercial where he did the splits, what wrong can this man do? It also boasts Adam Brody, Dennis Haysbert and the always great to see in things Rob Huebel (except SHIELD which totally wasted him). Universal is bringing this one to glorious Blu-ray on March 25th. Here’s hoping for some good laughs and kick ass throwback pure action! I have been a huge fan of HBO’s comedy series Eastbound & Down and its ridiculous, foul-mouthed anti-hero character Kenny Powers since the beginning. I know some people are not big on Danny McBride, but I find him hilarious and this show, which he is heavily involved the production of, was a perfect way to harness his comedic energy over the years. The fourth season was an unexpected one, given the finality of its third, but dammit if McBride and co-creator Jody Hill didn’t find a way to make a truly glorious final season for the series. This series was always the story of a former baseball player and all-around horrible guy coming to terms with evolving for the better as a person, but in the craziest ways possible, making it plenty entertaining. On May 13th, everyone will have the chance to see how the sage of Kenny Powers comes to a close. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

More clips today, folks. This time its from the upcoming film IN FEAR from Anchor Bay. It’s been getting a lot of buzz leading up to its small theatrical run and Blu-ray debut coming in March (the 7th and 11th to be precise). It stars Alice Englert who I enjoyed a lot in Beautiful Creatures last year and Iain De Caestecker most know for Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. which I, like I’m sure many others, am still torturing myself with and at this point I really don’t know why. It’s directed by Jeremy Lovering, who appears to have made his career in directing a lot of BBC stuff. I generally save the trailer posts for more high profile films, but Under The Skin seems very intriguing to me. The film first caught my attention during its run at various film festivals last year, where I kept hearing about the film and its lead performance from Scarlett Johansson. Some comparisons to Kubrick were being made with this latest film from Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth), which is a bit strong, but certainly gets my attention.
