The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season (Blu-ray Review)

Anchor Bay Entertainment is proud to present the seventh season of The Walking Dead on Blu-ray. You can find reviews for the previous seasons of the hit zombie-drama series by Why So Blu’s Brian White (seasons 123, 4 and 5) as well as last season, but here we are with the season that brought us Negan and more. It’s no secret that season seven featured its share of controversy, given the level of brutality on display. That said, Negan, The Kingdom, some key deaths and other aspects of this season also continued to build on the world that began in Robert Kirkman’s (and others) graphic novel series. Now you can dig in to see just how well this Blu-ray set stacks up.

Why So Blu Crew Recaps Comic-Con with Out Now with Aaron and Abe Podcast

I don’t often post episodes of Out Now with Aaron and Abe, the podcast I co-host weekly, but this was a special event. Given that a few members of the Why So Blu crew were at Comic-Con this year, it seemed right to record an episode where we could gather everyone’s thoughts about this year’s convention. So I was joined by Brian White, Jordan Grout, and Bron Anderson, along with my lovely girlfriend, Ana Bosch, as we dove into a discussion concerning the various panels, footage and more seen in sunny San Diego this year. In this episode, you’ll find us all talking about Marvel, Warner Brothers, Ready Player One, Stranger Things, Kingsman, The Walking Dead, Westworld, Gifted, Laika and so much more. Despite recording late at night, after a long day, we all had a lot of fun going over our experiences, despite being tired. So please listen in and enjoy.

SDCC 2017: The Gifted Extended Sneak Peek

Comic-Con 201720th Century Fox began creating stories in the X-men universe for television last year with the outstanding and surreal “Legion” on FX. This year they jump to a more mainstream appeal type of show with “The Gifted,” which will debut on Fox this Fall. At Comic Con this year, they brought a sneak peek clip of the upcoming show that laid out the premise, introduced a few characters, and created a good amount of intrigue for what is to come. While it was immediately clear that this isn’t going to be as ambitious as “Legion”, “The Gifted” has the right elements to be a success.

SDCC 2017: Psych Reunion and Movie Sneak Peek

Comic-Con 2017Get ready to spot some hidden pineapples! The “Psych” panel led by Jimmi Simpson and featuring stars James Roday, Dulé Hill, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Corbin Bernsen, series creator Steve Franks, and executive producers Chris Henze and Kelly Kulchak was a total blast with a sing-a-long of the show’s theme song, a Q&A with the panel, some reminiscing of memories from the show, and an excellent and much anticipated 8-minute clip from the upcoming Psych film, which comes to USA in December. The movie clip was clearly the main event as the ballroom packed to the gills with 4800 rabid “Psych-os” swelled with excitement over the first new scenes from the beloved characters in nearly 3 years. It looks awesome.

SDCC 2017: Medinah World Premiere Sneak Peek

Comic-Con 2017“Battlestar Galactica” stars Michael Trucco and Tamoh Penikett were on hand along with Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) and Natasha Henstridge (Species) to introduce the world to what was being dubbed “The First-Ever Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series from the Middle East,” “Medinah.” The series was filmed in Qatar and has a number of Qatari actors filling out the cast in addition to Roberts, Henstridge, and Penikett. Even with the aura of being groundbreaking for a TV series giving it strength, there are a few clear reasons why “Medinah” has not yet been picked up for major distribution as well as a few reasons that “World Premiere Sneak Peak” lose a little luster when attached to a show like this.

SDCC 2017: First Look At Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling

Comic-Con 2017What better way to have fun at Comic-Con than by revisiting some old favorites. Thursday at SDCC featured a panel focused entirely on the 90s Nicktoon Rocko’s Modern Life. The show creator Joe Murray, along with the original voice cast, took the stage to discuss the show’s legacy. Additionally, the audience was treated to a first look at the upcoming TV special, Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling. It was a real treat, as I was always a big fan of Rocko and was happy to not only relive some memories but also get a look at what’s to come for my favorite wallaby.

The series is set to start on April 30th of this year and follows a recently released prisoner named Shadow Moon, played by Ricky Whittle (“The 100”) as he interacts with a number of old and new god-like beings who inhabit human form in his service of the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane (“Deadwood”). The show is executive produced by Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies,” “Hannibal”) and it shows, blossoming with Fulleresque flourishes throughout that create an eerie and visually stunning atmosphere for an intriguing, well-acted, and, so far, well-paced television series. Insecure Season 1 (Blu-ray Review)

Releasing soon on Blu-ray and Digital HD, the first season of HBO’s new comedy “Insecure” stars comedian Issa Rae as an awkward young black woman just trying to live her life in Los Angeles. The show is created by Rae and Larry Wilmore, of the unfortunately cancelled “Nightly Show” on Comedy Central, and makes a point to tackle the topic of modern female blackness from the lens of an everyday regular person. Issa’s character is not a strong, loud, independent black female stereotype. Instead, she is, as the title of the show might suggest, insecure – in many senses of the term. Scream Queens: The Complete First Season (DVD Review)

scream queens coverBecause writer/director/producer Ryan Murphy was not busy enough with American Horror Story and American Crime Story, he also decided to follow up Fox’s Glee with another over-the-top series that takes on the horror genre to a lighter degree with Scream Queens. Packed with both veteran and younger stars, the concept is fun enough, with this series challenging MTV’s Scream to be the best horror/dark comedy about teens on television. However, does Scream Queens deliver the goods or miss the mark when it comes to being a proper horror send-up? The first season is now available on DVD, so anyone can catch up.

The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (Blu-ray Review)

The People v. O.J. Simpson coverIn the beginning, the idea of producer Ryan Murphy being involved with a spin-off series of American Horror Story titled American Crime Story, with a focus on the O.J. Simpson murder trial for the first season, seemed risky to say the least. Now you put in a fantastic ensemble cast, use Jeffrey Tobin’s bestselling novel, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson as a framework for the story and relegate Murphy to merely a director on a few episodes and you have a much better chance of making something worthwhile. As it turns out, not only was The People v. O.J. Simpson good, it is one of the best seasons of television this year and certainly worthy of its 22 Emmy nominations (as of this posting). Now the series in on Blu-ray for many to dig into.
