Here’s one that I was a big fan of and wish had a bigger run with audiences: A journalist in Iran endures an unthinkable ordeal when he is falsely accused of spying in Rosewater, a political thriller coming to Digital HD, Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on February 10, 2015, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Based on the thrilling true-life story of Maziar Bahari, the film features first-rate performances from an international cast, as well as an impassioned script that infuses wit and humor into a terrifying and all-too-real situation. Available on DVD and Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, Rosewater comes with bonus content that sheds additional light on this important story.

The Longest Week was released by 20th Century Fox back on January 6th, earlier this year. This fifteen million dollar budgeted film saw a smaller, limited theatrical release back on September 5th of 2014. Written and directed by Peter Ganz from a story by Ganz and Juan Iglesias it stars Jason Bateman, Olivia Wilde, Billy Crudup, Tony Roberts and Jenny Slate. The film was released to some of the worst reviews of last year, giving it an unfavorable 11% critic score and 24% audience score on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. I’m sure Fox is hoping this finds a little bit more life and enjoyment from the home video crowd as it hits the purchase and rental market.

With the Oscars still on my mind, it was nice to see so much love for Richard Linklater’s Boyhood in the form of 6 nominations, which we at Why So Blu were also big fans of (Check out our reviews HERE and HERE). Now, Family of the Year’s hit song “Hero” has been cut to footage of the film, making for a nice little music video. Continue on to check it out for yourself!

With 9 Academy Award nominations and the love from many, including many of us at Why So Blu, this announcement of the Wes Anderson’s acclaimed film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, heading back to theaters is a very happy one to report. You can read our Top Ten lists or check out my review of the Blu-ray HERE, but be aware that this film is a ton of fun, very well put together all around, and should definitely be seen on the big screen, given the presence of other contenders currently in theaters as well. Read the full press release for this re-release of the film in the rest of this post.

Wow! What can really be said about this title? I have to be careful as I don’t want any terrorists ransacking my place or else it’s on like Rambo: First Blood! So I have to choose my words very carefully as I tip toe around egg shells on the very delicate divide of what has become of one of the controversial films of all time. That’s right ladies and gentlemen. If you weren’t paying attention to the title of this post or lead-in image, we’re talking The Interview, making its Blu-ray and DVD debut on February 17th. The collectible version of this Blu-ray is loaded with 90 minutes of bonus features, deleted scenes, a gag reel and more. Check it all out below! Given the high regard for SELMA (myself included), I would like to remain happier that people are seeing it, rather than continuing to expound energy on how ridiculous various controversies may be or what awards it wont win. With that in mind, hearing the news of more cities joining the movement to bring the film to students in various parts of the country. Continue on to learn more about what is taking place and how it is happening.

There are two things I’ve always been clamoring for on Blu-ray; more Blaxploitation films and more Pam Grier. Which, yeah a lot of that is one in the same. And this new release from Scream Factory covers both! Yes, I’m very aware of the title, but note that these were different times and the Blaxploitation era was all about taking things and making it their own. You’d find many a spin on titles like this. There was even Blackenstein. These Blacula movies are somewhat a relic of another time, but I also find them to be plenty enough of a campy hoot to enjoy. A fun trivia fact, Blacula himself is also the King of Cartoons from Pee-wee’s Playhouse (The guy from the second season onward). This double feature (awesome) will be out March 3rd, and here’s the details below! Continue reading ‘BLACULA And SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM Make Their Blu-ray Debuts March 3rd From Scream Factory!’

Because Marvel Studios is struggling both in terms of profit and approval both critically and audiences alike, they have decided to really try and market this Avengers: Age of Ultron thing, in order to hopefully get a real success finally…Okay, so clearly Marvel is not struggling, but low and behold – here is a brand new trailer for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. Given what I have seen in the trailers thus far, playing up the ‘dark sequel’ idea is definitely part of the plan, even if the film ends up being as much fun as we should expect it to be. That said, I will say that these trailers are better than the ones for the first Avengers, so that is a big plus. If the eventual posters follow suit, that will be even better. Check out the new trailer by continuing on in this post.

The acclaimed documentary focused on the life of celebrated film critic Roger Ebert is finally coming to Blu-ray on February 17th. I was one of many who found a lot to like about this Steve James documentary, as it not only shed some life on the man who meant a lot for many (a true accomplishment for a simple Chicago film critic), but provided an entertaining and emotional amount of insight on a lot that came with Ebert, such as his relationship with friend/foil/fellow critic Gene Siskel. Find out for yourself with the Blu-ray for Life Itself and learn more about its release in this post.

As if Magnolia Home Entertainment wanted to provide some friendly competition between their two horror anthology franchises, V/H/S apparently has nothing on ABCs of Death, which presents not 1, not 2, but 26 short films from 26 different directors, all within one movie. Now, the first one was not exactly the greatest thing ever, but one cannot say there wasn’t variety. Now there is a sequel, which arrives on Blu-ray this February. If you are excited for more, feel free to check out this news to learn more about this upcoming release.

The past three years, consistently in the horror world, we’ve been anticipating a film in the V/H/S series. Done in the classic horror anthology mode, but using the modern “found footage” aesthetic, the first film was a neat experiment that went pretty hit or miss. Last years’ followup was seen as a consensus improvement. It also contained a segment that had one of the most horrifying and disturbing horror stories I had seen in a long time. I’m eager to see what they are considering the finale, which is the Blu-ray information we have for you today. Pre-order is also available now, too, so click the Amazon link at the bottom to nab yourself a copy.

Here’s something I stumbled across and read today. I could not contain my excitement over it and I just had to get the good news out to all our readers here. Horror sensation Rob Zombie is going to release a new live album, Spookshow International Live. Hell yeah! It was previously announced on his Facebook page where Rob goes on record saying: “It’s been 8 years since our last live album so we figured it was time for another. Actually we weren’t planning on it, but we recorded a few shows and they sounded really great so we thought “f#*k it” let’s get it out there.” The T-Boy Records album will feature 19 tracks, including fan favorites such as “Thunderkiss ’65,” “Dragula” and “Living Dead Girl” as well as live renditions of tracks from Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor and a cover of The Ramones “Blitzkrieg Bop. Check out the track listing below as well as the front and back covers of the February 24th release, and of course, pre-order now!
