Blade’s a very nice pick from Warner Bros to push to the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray for an upgrade. It seems sort of random, being that its now turned 22, but anytime is a good time for a 4K Blade. One wishes that they had just done the trilogy and put that out. Maybe this will be like The Matrix a few years back where the first one came out and then months later they did a full set. Though, it they want to put out just the second one and take their time with the third, I’ll be fine and understand. There aren’t any new bonus features, but they have given the film an upgrade in the audio department with a bursting new Atmos track. This was released back on December 1st. You can order using the paid Amazon Associates link following the review.

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Warner Bros has lay upon us one of the finest motion picture trilogies of all time as Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy is bestowed upon us. There have been strategies as to how this movies have been rolled out on both DVD and Blu-ray. 4K looks no different. Typically, the theatrical edits of the films have broken the seal with the extended coming later down the line. For 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray, we are getting both theatrical and extended right out the gate, but with the bonus features promised to coming sometime next year in 2021. It isn’t complete void of them (See the “Extras” section about that), but physically speaking you are getting straight up 4K discs of the movies here in some standard packaging and that’s it. Hardcore fandom may want to wait, but for someone like me who enjoys them but who’s just cool with owning the movies, this may be the way to go. The Lord of the Rings, along with The Hobbit films are available now (released December 1st). Continue reading ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)’

Well, it finally happened… We finally have Top Gun in 4K. And now also, we finally get the earlier promised steenbok, too! The iconic action classic finally hits home in the best way to watch films at home. The sights, the sounds, the sweat, the soundtrack. The film is a cultural standpoint for blockbuster filmmaking. There is something special that radiates through this movie that is almost unexplainable. At one point, this was a film I avoided like the plague. Does the film still hold up? How about the transfer? Let’s go in depth below, and don’t forget to click the paid link at the bottom to order your copy of Top Gun 4K Steelbook, available now!

Coming to America goes on a short list of films I’ve seen over 100 times. This is a film that captures irreverent humor and imminent sweetness in equal doses. This is also the first time the world was given the opportunity to see Eddie Murphy at the height of his powers taking on a romantic lead, but also being tasked with the challenge of taking on different roles under still brilliant makeup work. When the announcement was made that Paramount was bringing some classic Eddie films to 4K and Paramount Presents Blu-ray, this title was the one I was most anxious to check out. Read my thoughts and appreciations in-depth below and be sure to click the paid links at the end to get your copy of Coming to America!

AH HA! Earlier this year, Paramount release The Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy to standard Blu-ray. It marked the first time the sequels were released on Blu-ray in the United States and boasted new 4K transfers for every film. We all wondered why not a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray release of them, then? Well, Paramount heard us, or the dollars were there for that trilogy set to suggest they knew we loved these movies. So, here we are 11 months later and the original film is getting the upgrade! Hell yeah! I’m okay with that. Its arriving with the same bonus features and audio, just the films 4K restoration is now in its native form. I’m very excited that it is a part of this Eddie Murphy celebration that Paramount is seemingly having on December 1st! You’ll find reviews coming for Coming To America 4K and the Paramount Presents for Trading Places and The Golden Child in the coming weeks on this very site. But, let’s kick things off with some Axel F! Pre-order available from the paid Amazon Associates link below.

At long last, the final film of the X-Men series that began during the 20th Century Fox era managed to find its way to a theatrical release. No, The New Mutants was not riding on the best buzz before finally being seen by audiences, nor did the film deliver anything more than a middling end to this iteration of the long-running X-Men Cinematic Universe. It’s a shame, as there was potential to see something neat by bringing a horror element into this world. Still, for those interested and the completists out there, The New Mutants now has a 4K Ultra HD release to dig into. It may not be the ideal film to show off a system with, but the teenage-tinged superhero film does what it can with the format.

Rambo: The Complete SteelBook Collection may not be a necessity due to the double dipping nature of it all, but for the right fan it’s a very much appreciated way to house all the Rambo films on 4K Ultra HD Disc in 5 separate collectible steelbook arrangements within one hard shell vessel. Yes I know that was a long sentence. However, talking about Rambo movies makes me excited! The 5-movie set also comes with original art by some of today’s most celebrated illustrators (we’ll show you around in much more detail down below) featuring five uniquely designed steelbooks by Justin Erickson, Ken Taylor, Grzegorz Domaradzki, Vance Kelly, and John Guydo, housed in a large, custom SteelBook case. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that this the collection features all five action-packed Rambo films including First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo III, Rambo, and Rambo: Last Blood. This was released on October 27th. We just got our review copy! And I’m very excited to show you all around. Read on! Yours truly has now covered the first season of HBO’s Westworld, also known as The Maze, on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray over HERE, and the second season, also known as The Door, HERE. Therefore, it only makes sense to have me lock down the third season, which wears the moniker The New World. I think Warner Bros. says it best in their press release. Since the award-winning drama series’ debut, Westworld has captivated audiences by exploring the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin with the latest season delving into the questions surrounding free will. That’s a good setup, but what I am most looking forward to is seeing life outside the park in a future world with some familiar faces here like Evan Rachel Wood. Truth be told this review of Westworld Season 3 is my first experience with the third season. So what you’ll read down below will very much be my first impressions. Ready or not here I come! It’s A Wonderful Life is almost 75 years old and continually remains a seminal holiday classic. Primarily, its connection to Christmas keeps it on most schedules come December in the United States. And, like clockwork, every year studios know how to repackage and rerelease it and others like it in new and exciting ways. Hence, last year saw the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray debut of It’s A Wonderful Life from Paramount and this year brings us the steelbook version of those same discs in that set. And it actually tops last year’s release as it has the original poster art on the packaging and includes a poster. That’s pretty awesome in my book! It’s available on November 17th and you can pre-order it using the paid Amazon Associates link below.

Remember, remember the fifth of November. Warner Bros is also asking you this year to also remember, remember the third of November. That’s when they are releasing the very popular V For Vendetta onto 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray for the first time. The Natalie Portman-starring, Wachowski-produced adaptation of the popular graphic novel is getting a nice upgrade to a native 4K picture quality and dynamic Atmos sound. They’re not stopping there, as three new bonus features are being brought to home video for the first time. You get a new sit down conversation with producer Lana Wachowski and director James McTeigue, Natalie Portman’s audition tape and a vintage making of feature from around the time the film came out. There are also different editions of this release, but this review covers the standard one. V for Vendetta on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray is available now and can be ordered using the paid Amazon Associates link below.

I really wanted to see Antebellum when it came out, but I wasn’t frisky enough to head to the drive-in and the price tag on the rental for something I knew I’d probably be reviewing in a few short months was a bit high. Nonetheless, here it is and on a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray disc release nonetheless. Good things really come to those who wait. Lionsgate releases the film on November 3rd and its a surprisingly loaded with some quality bonus material (Feature length documentary) and Atmos sound. If you’re going to take it in at home, this is quite the way to be able to do so. The film has proven quite divisive, but trusted colleagues of mine have been on the minority end of it and loved the movie, so I’m optimistic going in. How’d it turn out? Well, you don’t usually find that out in the intro paragraph, but you’re not far from knowing. Its out now, and you can pre-order yourself a copy of this 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray edition of Antebellum by clicking the paid Amazon link following the review.

4K BLUsday returns on election day in the United States (Please get out and VOTE). A rather ho-hum release day in terms of both announcements from the past week as well as movie coming out today. Still there is plenty to be excited about. We are about to enter that weird late December through February period where the studios aren’t going overboard after their big holiday releases hangover. On the YouTube Channel I have our Full Metal Jacket contest winner as well as a new contest for a digital code of 2019’s The Addams Family animated film. Please note, that code is an iTunes exclusive and not redeemable through other digital services. Listen to the podcast, watch the video, more details below!

Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection is going to be one very unorthodox 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review. You want to know why? I hope you do as I didn’t just set that up for nothing. It’s simply because this one whopping big box set that houses a total of 33 Discs (23 BD-100s, 7 BD-66s, 3 BD-50s). Wow! That encompasses all 8 seasons of the hit HBO show that plays across 73 episodes, which equates to roughly 75 hours. If that’s not enough, there’s also 15 hours of extras packed within this set. Now do you know why I say this isn’t your average 4K Disc review? I hope so. And rest assured I’m going to do my best to cover everything you’ll find here, but I’m only a mere mortal. You’ll have to forgive me as I’m not going to be able to go through all of this. Thankfully I have covered every Blu-ray release of the show so there’s that and I’ll be providing you pertinent URL links to all the coverage so you won’t miss a beat here. On top of it all you can also bank on my unboxing photos. I told you I have you covered! Continue reading ‘Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection (4K UHD Blu-ray Review)’

The sequel to Back To The Future is a rare one that for some even eclipses the original. There is a new story with a somewhat familiar premise, but overall has a different feel to the original. The stakes as always are higher, and the cliffhanger ending is one that made the film’s fans crazy for the next installment. If ever there was a reliable franchise, Back To The Future was it.
