‘Soapdish’ Coming to DVD October 5th

The off-screen craziness rivals the on-screen drama in the sidesplitting comedy SOAPDISH, celebrating its 20th anniversary on DVD October 4, 2011.  Boasting an extraordinary cast of stars including Robert Downey Jr., Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Shue, Teri Hatcher, Garry Marshall, Cathy Moriarty and Kathy Najimy, the hilarious comedy follows the outrageous high jinks of the cast and crew of America’s hottest soap opera, “The Sun Also Sets”.  When an ambitious actress connives with the soap’s producer to scuttle the career of the show’s beloved star, nothing works as they planned and there’s enough dirty laundry to keep everyone in hot water.  This comedy gem continues to be a fan favorite and the DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette and the original theatrical trailer.  Continue reading ‘‘Soapdish’ Coming to DVD October 5th’

Das Boot (Blu-ray Review)

I have a confession to make.  I’ve owned several versions of Das Boot (The Boat) throughout the years.  I used to own the director’s cut DVD which ran  209 minutes long.  I even owned the full original uncut version that ran for an even longer 293 minutes on DVD.  Yes, you can say I was a very dedicated fellow when it came to all things Boot. Well, this being Blu-ray and all, it was time to get back on…Das Boot again.  This newly remastered high definition edition of the WWII German film is finally available for all those poor souls who have never journeyed to the bottom of the sea while hell was raining down on them from above…. pretty dramatic, huh?  Take a journey with me to the bottom of the sea if you dare.   Continue reading ‘Das Boot (Blu-ray Review)’

Rango (Blu-ray Review)

I was very curious about Rango when it hit theaters, but for whatever reason, I was not able to catch it on the big screen.  People kept telling me that since I’m a big western film buff that I would love it, because it in fact IS a western.  So far, so good!  The theatrical poster would tell you otherwise, because it’s just a chameleon holding a big orange fish.  Buzzkill.  I don’t care about that.  Then I started to read who was involved in the project.  Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Alfred Molina, Ray Winstone, Timothy Olyphant, etc… Hey, these are all people I like!  My curiosity got the best of me and so the Blu-ray Gods gifted me with reviewing Rango on Blu-ray.  This is an early review, so let’s go!  Continue reading ‘Rango (Blu-ray Review)’

Ceremony (Blu-ray Review)

It has been quite a while since I’ve actually seen a film with one of my favorite actresses in it.  When I got word that I would be reviewing Ceremony on Blu-ray for Why So Blu, I was pretty excited, if only for justice.  I didn’t know what Ceremony was about, or who else was in it.  It was just Uma!  I’m easily amused.  The cover art gives it that chick-flick kind of appearance, but I can honestly tell you that it is not a chick-flick in the traditional sense.  In fact, even in the traditional sense, I wouldn’t classify Ceremony as a chick-flick either.  Blame it on whoever created the photoshopped artwork, I guess.  Anyways, enough about that, let’s get to the review!  Continue reading ‘Ceremony (Blu-ray Review)’

Lucio Fulci’s ‘Zombie’ Will Be Devoured on Blu-ray, October 25th

In Italy, it was considered the ‘unofficial sequel’ to DAWN OF THE DEAD. In England, it was known as ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS and banned as obscene. In America, it was called ZOMBIE and advertised with the depraved tag line “WE ARE GOING TO EAT YOU!” Tisa Farrow (THE GRIM REAPER), Ian McCulloch (CONTAMINATION), Al Cliver (CANNIBALS), and Richard Johnson (THE HAUNTING) star in this worldwide splatter sensation directed by ‘Maestro Of Gore’ Lucio Fulci (CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY) that remains one of the most eye-skewering, skin-ripping, gore-gushingly graphic horror hits of all time!  Continue reading ‘Lucio Fulci’s ‘Zombie’ Will Be Devoured on Blu-ray, October 25th’
