Insidious certainly caused a stir for us at Why So Blu?, as I know that Brian, Gerard. and myself, at the very least, were big fans of the 2010 horror film that ended up being a huge success. Director James Wan is certainly a busy guy these days, with his latest film The Conjuring arriving in theaters next week, his prep for the next Fast & Furious film currently in progress, not to mention the sequel to Insidious, which is the subject of this post. Insidious: Chapter 2 will have a presence at San Diego Comic Con, allowing fans a chance to dive into “The Further”. In this article, you can learn more about the Comic Con plans for Insidious: Chapter 2 and take a look at the trailer for the film.

Here’s a film that I have been very curious about. Spike Lee putting his own spin on the Oldboy story is certainly something I would not have suspected to come along initially (although more likely than the supposed idea of Will Smith and Steven Spielberg joining forces to provide their take). As a huge fan of Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film, which was adapted from a Japanese manga, the idea of having an American version was not necessarily disconcerting, but a curious endeavor, as it deals with a lot of taboo subjects. Regardless, we now have the first trailer for this upcoming October release and it looks like a pretty strong mix of ideas from both the original manga and Chan-wook’s film, along with some Americanized updates to the story. While I would be surprised to like this version more than a film that I consider to be one of my favorite movies, I am still quite intrigued by the notion. Continue on to view the first trailer for the film.

Here is something that I am happy to spread more knowledge of, as I have been following this project for some time. I know I am not wrong in saying that we at Why So Blu are big Batman fans and look forward to future adventures involving him, let alone rewatching and possibly even rediscovering things about the Caped Crusader that continue to entertain us. Legends of the Knight is an upcoming documentary film that is focused on how Batman has been a hero for many people in real life. Filmmaker Brett Culp has set out to make a film that goes over the cultural impact that Batman has had over the year and thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, the film will be released to the public. Portions of the documentary film Legends of the Knight will debut at a SDCC panel on Friday, July 29 at 10:30am in room 26AB. The independent, not-for-profit film explores the inspirational impact of Batman and the power of heroic storytelling. Read on to learn more about this project/event.

Here is a double-dose of Blu-ray news for comedies from the FX network (soon to be seen on FXX). It’s Always Sunny I Philadelphia Season 8 and The League Season 4 both hit shelves on September 10th. For those unaware, ‘Sunny’ follows the insane and hilarious shenanigans of four friends and Danny DeVito (probably the best way to address this group), who own a bar in Philadelphia. The League is one of my favorite comedies on TV right now and anyone worried that it is all about football should put that thought to rest. It is about a group of friends that participate in a fantasy football league, yes, but actual football knowledge is never the focus (I don’t watch football and I love this show), as things are more focused on these guys and gal having fun at each other’s expense. Regardless, you can read on to learn more about these upcoming releases.

Stop the press! I don’t care if it’s only a brief moment…word has it that Ashley Judd makes an appearance in Olympus Has Fallen and that’s good enough for me! It warms my heart that she’s actually in a movie that’s critically reviewed as being okay because God I swear she has made more bad choices in her career than…than…well you know the point I am trying to get across. LOL. So without further ado…I’m pleased to report the Ashley Judd 🙂 and Gerard Butler action vehicle Olympus Has Fallen is coming to the Blu-ray format on August 13th! The Blu-ray exclusives include five featurettes and a blooper reel. Check out the full press release below and pre-order your copy here! Try as I might, I just couldn’t find the time to make it to the theater this year to catch Michael Bay’s vacation from the Transformers franchise, Pain & Gain. I wanted to, but lady luck was never on my side unfortunately. However, I don’t let things like this get me down. After all, our very own Gerard once missed seeing a paid entrance to Oblivion because he was standing in line buying Rob Zombie albums. Things like this happen. Life happens. I knew I would eventually get a go around with this bad boy on Blu-ray and thankfully with today’s announcement it looks like I won’t be waiting too much longer. Check out the full press release from Paramount below. Continue reading ‘Marky Mark and The Rock Bring The ‘Pain & Gain’ to Blu-ray!’

Last year, I was happy to catch up with the first season of the Emmy-winning Showtime series, Homeland. It was one of the best debut seasons of a television series that I had seen, complete with spy games, thrills, wonderful performances from the core cast members, and an incredibly intriguing story that only built up in tension as it went along. Season 2 of the acclaimed series arrives on Blu-ray this September and I am very excited to see what has come of Sgt. Brody, Agent Mathison, and whatever possible terrorist threats reveal themselves. Everyone else will be able to find out too, come September 10th. Read on to learn more about this upcoming Blu-ray release.

This should be interesting. I have been hearing about Francis Ford Coppola’s latest experimental film Twixt for quite some time. It was taken on the road and made out to be an interactive film experience, complete with 3D, a mix of color and black and white imagery, and various means to keep the audience very involved with what happens in the film. I am not at all sure how that worked, but at least I will be able to see a “definitive” version of Twixt on Blu-ray this coming July. On July 23, Twixt arrives on Blu-ray and will surely be a trip, as I attempt to watch and evaluate it. Coppola is obviously a legend, as far as filmmakers go, but this later stage of his career has been responsible for some interesting choices on his part. Hopefully Twixt will turn out to be more than just an interesting take on gothic horror filmmaking. Read on to learn more about this upcoming release.

On June 5th, 2013, I was happy to attend a double feature of films by Sofia Coppola at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica. Of her films, the features played were Lost In Translation and The Virgin Suicides. In between features, Coppola showed up to participate in a Q&A, where she was open to answering all sorts of questions regarding her films, her directorial style, and approach to different features. I was able to record this conversation and am pleased to be able to present it in its entirety in this post. Continue on to listen to the entire Q&A and learn more about this fun event.

David Goyer has given us a fair share of memorable comic book turns and adventures. Now he takes to the small screen for the first time since Blade‘s short lived appearance. DA VINCI’S DEMONS proved a success on the Starz network this past season and was quickly renewed for a second season that has already buffed up its writing staff with Jonathan Hickman (The Avengers, The Manhattan Projects) and Matt Fraction (Fantastic Four, Hawkeye). In order to appreciate what they’re going to add, it’s probably best to brush up on Season 1. Whether you’re a fan or you missed it and would like to check it out, you’ll have your chance to catch up this September when Anchor Bay releases the complete first season on Blu-ray (already available for Pre-order). I was so against this movie when I heard there was not going to be any sign of the Baroness or Scarlett. They were the best parts of the first film, right? Well reluctantly I dragged my sorry butt to the theater months ago on a rainy Sunday afternoon and well…I actually really liked what I saw. As the title implies, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION exploded on the big screen with a loud bang and enough force to leave me wanting more…ahem…a sequel! And I’m getting it too! And best of all, Paramount has officially announced a July 30th release date for this bad boy and I couldn’t be happier! Pre-order your copy now and make sure to read the full press release below. Yo Joe! Continue reading ‘G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Explodes onto Blu-ray – Officially This July!’

Hot of the press! Just in! Can I get a hell yeah?! AMC and Anchor Bay Entertainment will be bringing The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season to Blu-ray this August. The magic date is the 27th, just 4 mere days before my birthday. What a glorious and “infectious” way for me to celebrate, huh? Say what you want about the show, but I LOVE it. I know a lot of people don’t like the way the governor was casted or portrayed during the third season, but as far as I’m concerned they can all fall by the way side. This isn’t the comics! Bring on more Governor! I want more! But I digress and I’ll hold those sentiments until our eventual Blu-ray review coverage this summer. Until then, check out the full press release below and pre-order Season 3 today! Continue reading ‘AMC’s The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season Infects Blu-ray’

Yes! You read it right! The Wizard of Oz will be hitting the 3D and IMAX theaters for the very first time, for one week only, this September to celebrate its 75th anniversary. Wow! Can you believe it’s actually that old? Amazing! It all goes down the week of September 20th this year. And if that’s not enough, wait until you get a load of this. Warner Bros. will also release the 75th Anniversary Collectors Edition on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD and UltraViolet available October 1st. Wow again! But don’t take my word for it. Check out the full press release below. Continue reading ‘The Wizard of Oz in 3D and IMAX for the First Time Ever!’
