The Walking Dead Rises to the Occasion

I am not normally one to review television, but this is a special case, so I will give it a shot. The acclaimed graphic novel series, The Walking Dead, which also happens to be one of my favorites, has been adapted into a television series, airing Sunday nights on AMC. I was stoked to learn of this upon its first announcement. Not only have I been continually satisfied by AMC’s television series output (Mad Men and Breaking Bad are two of my favorite shows currently on television), I have also been very pleased with all the talent involved in getting this series made. Dexter is Back! Season 5…The Emotional Roller Coaster Begins…

All I can say is one word…wow!  Dexter is back and he’s taking no prisoners this time around!  Dexter “Season 5 –Episode 1” was one of the best Dexter episodes I have ever laid eyes on and I felt the blood curdling need within me to write about it as soon as possible.  It wasn’t because of the coldblooded murders and it wasn’t because of his never-ending weird quirkiness, but instead it was because of the different side we saw tonight of Dexter, his heart (his true love for the family: Rita, Astor, Cody, Deb and Harrison). Spartacus: Blood & Sand Season 1 (Blu-ray Review)

I really can’t think of a better way to start my weekend off than to come home and find a Blu-ray review copy of Spartacus: Blood and Sand The Complete First Season sitting in my mailbox, can you?  I must admit that I was quite smitten earlier this year by the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand and once again this summer at Comic-Con 2010 (see my exclusive coverage here).  So smitten was I that I actually took time from my obligatory family schedule on Easter Sunday this year to reach out to the PR people at Starz and express how much my wife and I have enjoyed the Friday night programming this past winter/spring. Comic-Con 2010: HBO’s True Blood

For the second straight year in a row now, Ballroom 20 was packed full  beyond capacity with fans of Alan Ball’s HBO series, True Blood.  Even the peeps that waited for over 3 hours outside the Ballroom were not able to get in.  Diehard True Blood fans suffered through preceding morning/afternoon panels just to get a glimpse of their favorite premium cable cast.  Was it worth it?  Of course it was!  However, being a member of the press does have its advantages (insert smile). Comic-Con 2010: Spartacus

Comic-Con fans packed Room 6BCF on Friday to get a glimpse of the hottest show on premium cable.  Move over True Blood… I’m talking Spartacus: Blood and Sand! We were gathered there that day to celebrate three things: everything Spartacus and their success, the upcoming 6-part prequel miniseries and most importantly, Andy Whitfield’s defeat of cancer.  It was like being in the gladiator arena audience.  The crowd was rowdy as can be.  And I truly loved every minute of this panel! Comic-Con 2010 Begins with Nikita

Let the Con begin!  Staff members from Why So Blu have descended upon the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con.  For the inundated, Comic-Con is not simply a fanboy event to get all oogly-googly over Spider-Man and Wonder Woman.  Ohhh no, my friends. It is so much more than that.  It has become one of the largest launch pads in the world for film, alternative press, collectibles, gaming, television…you name it.  With Wednesday the 21st being Preview Night, a few of us had the opportunity to watch the premiere of the CW Network’s Nikita, courtesy of Warner Bros. Studios. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010 Begins with Nikita’

Starz Wraps Up 1st Season of “SPARTACUS: BLOOD & SAND”

Spartacus: Blood and SandI must admit that I am quite smitten by the Starz original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.  So smitten am I that I actually took time from my busy schedule on Easter Sunday to reach out to their PR people and express how much my wife and I have enjoyed the Friday night programming this winter/spring.  You see, for me to take time out of my hectic schedule to do something as daunting as this means that I really like it.  As my wife will attest to, when I like something I put all my passion and fever behind it and nothing else truly matters. Southland Returns to Primetime on TNT

TNT's SouthlandIf anyone has ever watched Southland, you know that this is not just another cop show.  I don’t know how else to stress the second half of that sentence.  After a brief stint on network television, TNT had the sense to pick up this dramatic series.  Southland takes place in the wonderful, yet tension-filled city of Los Angeles, California.  As the opening sequence points out, “Only 9,800 police officers patrol the city of Los Angeles, an area of 500 square miles and 4 million people.” Continue reading ‘Southland Returns to Primetime on TNT’

True Blood is Truly Entertaining

True BloodWhat’s that saying our parents and teachers would angrily ask us when we were younger?  “If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you do it too??”  If the cast of True Blood jumped, then apparently I’m going to follow.  I don’t watch many television shows.  I used to watch Sportscenter religiously but that has since fallen by the wayside for me.  Then there was The Office.  I enjoyed a few seasons of that but eventually grew tired of watching standard definition dvd’s.
