I am no longer a Gaga concert virgin. The controversial pop superstar recently arrived in Cleveland, Ohio for her July 14th performance along with a talented and sizable ensemble woven into the Monster Ball Tour. First things first; this was not a concert. Lady Gaga’s performance is an experience to the Nth degree on so many levels. If anyone out there is having any thoughts on attending one of the dates on her tour, let me say this…if in-your-face sexuality bothers you, stay away. The summer heat is in full effect, and that means you’re probably doing all you can to stay near the conditioned air. Well, no big deal because I’ve got the scoop on the coolest film festival this year—Sundance 2010. Last January I spent a week in Park City, Utah with frigid temperatures, fast women, and fun films. So, grab a cold one and tap your winter boots together because I’m bringing you back to the most severe winter in American history. Better late than never, here’s a round up of my experiences/journal from the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Continue reading ‘Dirty Sundancing!’

If you’re going to do something, you might as well do it right. With the combined efforts of CageStars, Gentile Promotions, Voo Doo Custom Sportsbikes, Quaker Steak & Lube, and Roctagon Entertainment, the unified team secured the visit of UFC Middleweight Champion and fan favorite Anderson Silva for the June 26th multi-bout event at the Quaker Steak & Lube in Cleveland, Ohio suburb of Sheffield Village. On the ground level, it was a story of Cinderella proportions. It defied the norm and broke the mold both ideologically and physically. Up to 1999, the typical, professional Irish dancer was one of 100% Irish ancestry. Whether male or female, they would have started dance at an age of 5 or 6 and be of moderate stature as far as height went. Most were straight from Ireland, with others coming from England, Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. It’s that time of the year again. The time we start blitzing you with all the happenings that will be going down this July at Comic-Con 2010. The fever is in the air and I could not be more excited about it, especially when you are talking about the Starz original series Spartacus. Few TV shows have touched me like Spartacus has this past year. Not only did I never expect to like it, but my cheap arse also subscribed to a premium cable channel just so I didn’t miss a heart pounding moment. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Starz’s ‘SPARTACUS’ Returns!’

And of course… you are reading it for the story, right? Well don’t worry. In case you missed it last year, there’s always this year. And the Leia Metal Bikini shoot will be even bigger and better this year with special guest star Seth Green in attendance. Continue reading ‘Calling all Slave Leia’s – Comic-Con 2010 is Here!’

If you told me that mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting was the fastest growing sport around, I’d be hard-pressed to disagree with you. There is no denying the impression MMA has left on the public not just in the States, but around the world. The competitors come from around the globe to match not only their strength, but their wits against their fellow fighters. With personalities such as the Shamrock brothers, Chuck Liddell, and current powerhouse Anderson Silva, the landscape features an array of fighters from all weight classes, each with their unique arsenal of fighting styles. This past April 1st was no fool’s day, as rocker Chris Daughtry and company were in Cleveland performing in front of a capacity crowd. I’m still utterly dumbfounded when I mention Daughtry’s name (referring to either the man himself or his band’s namesake) and I still get retorts of “I don’t know” or “I don’t watch American Idol.” I wasn’t alive during the late 1700’s but I still know who George Washington is. My point is, I don’t watch the show either, but somehow through the magic of reading or some other kind of awareness, I know who the guy is. Continue reading ‘Daughtry Rocks Out Live’

Comics come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, attitudes, styles. Jim Shubert is a big guy with a very physical and sometimes playfully disgruntled act, who recently performed for an audience I was more than glad to be a part of. Shubert is a seasoned veteran of his trade and he has been around the block more than once. The Irish-American comedian/actor has a resumé a mile long with appearances in films such as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Italian Job and Coyote Ugly. Continue reading ‘Jimmy Shubert is Alive & Kickin’ @ Hilarities!’

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a comedy show and I always walk into these standup gigs with a bit of apprehension. I’ve seen the likes of Tracy Morgan live and in person and when someone with a big name like that disappoints, you get a little skeptical with those performers that you are not so familiar with. This past weekend I had the chance to catch the up and coming Dan Grueter at the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Continue reading ‘Dan Grueter – Chasing My Tail’

In 2005, a new Irish-themed show entered the touring scene. Debuting in Cleveland, Ohio at that time, the show started appearing on public television and was soon amassing fans across the country. It wouldn’t take long before the hit show made itself known overseas as well. So what exactly made this entity such a hit with fans? Continue reading ‘Celtic Woman a Graceful Production’

Roger Ebert recently said that he couldn’t think of an easier year to predict the Academy Award winners. Sure enough, most of the pre-show claims out there turned out to be accurate with Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker taking the most heralded prize of the evening for Best Picture. Other notables include Jeff Bridges as Best Actor for Crazy Heart, Sandra Bullock for Best Actress in The Blind Side, Mo’Nique as Best Supporting Actress in Precious, and lastly my personal favorite, Christoph Waltz, who did a really great job at playing a really rotten s.o.b. in Inglorious Basterds. Second City recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and continues to retain its success both on the road with its touring troupe(s) and at home in its stationary troupes in Chicago and Toronto. The half-century old laugh factory prides itself on impromptu comedy as well as rehearsed skits. Television fixture Saturday Night Live has pulled much of its talent over the years from Second City, including the likes of Bill Murray, Tina Fey and the late Chris Farley. For those of you who don’t know, the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka Razzies) is an annual award ceremony held in Los Angeles to recognize the worst in film. The ceremony was founded in 1981. The award show, which took place this past weekend, looked at the worst films and performances of 2009 and surprisingly, except for one, I agree with them all. So without wasting any more of your time please find below the categories, the nominees and the winners highlighted in bold. Continue reading ‘The 30th Golden Raspberry Award Winners’

Having enjoyed myself so much at Celebration 3 and being the big Star Wars fan that I am I just had to put a plug in about Celebration V landing this summer in Orlando, FL. One way or another Why So Blu will have some coverage from down there. We were actually sitting around talking about this event today and it made me think about how much of a blast I had at C3. I hope you are reading this Ed Henry. The event will take place at the Orange County Convention Center August 12-15. Continue reading ‘The Force is Strong at Star Wars Celebration V’

One of the perks of attending the Cinema Wasteland mini-convention in Strongsville, Ohio, besides the convenient locale for me, is being able to discuss various horror projects with their creators. Of the several attendees at this past autumn’s gathering, Director Emil Hyde was on hand to promote and discuss his latest work, The Landlord. My favorite publicist over at Spike TV dropped us a line yesterday and provided some additional video clips to share with our readers in anticipation of tonight’s broadcast of the 4th annual Scream awards. We also have some exclusive Spike TV press photos from the event to share with you below. Unfortunately, a picture of the show’s opening host, the lovely Jessica Alba, is sorely missing from their press photo package. Continue reading ‘Spike TV’s Scream 2009 Airs Tonight!’
