If you are a gamer then you know what the scene looked like hours before midnight on Nov. 7, 2011. Video game stores across the country preparing for a massive midnight sale of a very successful yearly title. Doing over $400 million in sales on the first day of it was released, which smashed first day sales records. I have to say I was one of the many that stood outside waiting to get my hands on the highly anticipated title. When I got home that night to start my vacation I skipped my usual of playing through the campaign and jumped straight online to battle foes with my friends. I am not a big fan of Batman or the DC universe for that matter. However, I did stumble upon an amazing video game that my friend had last year and it happened to be Batman: Arkham Asylum. So I borrowed the title and could not seem to put it down until I finished it. With an amazing combat system, story, gadgets of plenty, and amazing visuals. Feeling satisfied with the game I said wow they need to make a sequel to this. Sure enough I found out a new Batman game was in the works and decided that when the release date was announce my pre-order would be placed. After picking up Arkham City at 12:01 A.M. on Oct. 18, 2011 I was instantly hooked with a brand new story, sharper visuals, more gadgets, and the same effective combat system. When I thought about Madden this year I thought wow this is going to be the same old dog and probably no new tricks. To be honest the only reason I even thought about purchasing this installment was because I love Cleveland and our hard working running back, Peyton Hillis, got the fans vote to grace the cover of this edition. The one drawback I was expecting from this title was the lack current rosters due to the NFL lockout that almost plagued the season. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that an updated league roster was available right out of the package. Continue reading ‘Madden NFL 12 (PS3 Game Review)’

After a long delay between episodes, the final episode of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series has arrived. This is the last episode of its first season, which has shaped up to be quite impressive and has me anticipating what will be offered up in the second season. I addressed the reasoning behind why this episode had such a delay in a previous post concerning the Warner Premiere panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con (found HERE), but essentially, the crew wanted enough time to make the episode, which features CG robots, to look great and what better place to premiere it than amongst the fans at Comic Con. The results were met with cheers and now the episode is available to all. It is another fine example of how this web series has made great progress in adapting the popular video game franchise into an exciting live-action format. Check out the episode below. Thursday at San Diego Comic Con was packed with panels and people, as my fellow geeks and I continued to make our way through all of the different exhibits, booths, and presentations. While the much anticipated Twilight panel certainly got its audience and hours at a time were spent by people in various other lines as well, including the panel for the awesome HBO series Game of Thrones (wish I could have been there), I did manage to take some time and see what Warner Premier had to offer in the way of their new and popular web series. The results were interesting enough as the panel included a new web series being produced by Bryan Singer and, more excitedly, a panel with the stars and creators behind the popular online hit, Mortal Kombat Legacy. Why So Blu hasn’t done a lot of coverage on gaming lately, but hopefully with the help of Wizards of the Coast, that will change quite a bit. To kick off our new focus on gaming, Wizards of the Coast was kind enough to send me their Essential Dungeons and Dragons Starter Kit with the new 4th Edition rules. This week’s episode of the web series adaptation of the Mortal Kombat video game, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, finishes what the previous week’s episode started. Having pitted two fan favorite characters, Scorpion and Sub Zero, against each other in last week’s episode, seeing the conclusion of that match must have certainly been anticipated by the fans of this series. Seeing as how only five minutes, not including the previous episode recap and the end credits, have been given to the actual episode, this was a quickly paced episode that brought out some of the goods in true Mortal Kombat fashion. Signature moves were used, techno music was utilized, and some other key characters made an appearance. Enjoy: Continue reading ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 8: Scorpion and Sub Zero (Part 2)’

I never played the first Portal game and I found out that Portal 2 does a terrible job of explaining what the hell happened in the first installment. With that being said, I could not help being extremely lost with Portal 2‘s story line. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much of a story, but once I found out there was some sort of underlying tale, I wanted to know what it was. Most games that are sequels give a brief overview of the who, what, when and why. Bummer…this did not. Story aside, I thought the game was fun and challenging. So let’s talk about it some more. This newest installment of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series finally brings Mortal Kombat fans two of the most recognizable and favorite characters of the franchise. Scorpion and Sub Zero make their debut appearances in this episode. Not attempting to work in a gritty sort of setting, matching up with some of the other episodes, the setting for this episode is more in line with the spirit of a martial arts film. It is spoken completely in Japanese with English subtitles, focused more around developing Scorpion’s character as a husband and father, with a touch of his skills in combat portrayed as well. This is very much an episode about setting things up for the second part, as Sub-Zero only arrives at the end, to initiate a fight that is sure to be something special. Still, this is another well made, solid entry to the very watchable Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. So enjoy the episode here: Continue reading ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 7: Scorpion and Sub Zero (Part 1)’

This week’s episode of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series continues where episode four left off. The story is still set in the realm of Outworld, continuing to deal with the backstory that surrounds Kitana and Mileena. Since this is “part 2”, the episode continues with a similar style from last week, which includes a visual style that is different from the previous episodes (particularly the low-budget grittiness of the first two), by incorporating animated visuals into the series, in order to better establish the world of Outworld, without worrying about the low budget of the series as a whole. It is a neat way to handle things, but it helps that the story is intriguing enough to have kept me entertained. This episode is unfortunately very brief, just as the second episode was, with plenty of time spent on the opening recap and end credits, leaving room for about 6 minutes of an actual episode. Still, I am continuing to enjoy what this web series has to offer, so here is this week’s episode: Continue reading ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Ep. 5 – Kitana & Mileena (Part 2)’

I recently posted an article here on the site mentioning the release of Nintendo’s glasses-free 3D version of the handheld DS. I finally got my hands on a demo and after a few minutes on the small machine, the verdict is in…

Nintendo and George Lucas have two things in common. Both are innovative and both will market something to death as long as customers keep flocking to the product. There’s good news and bad news with mentioning them. The bad news is the rest of this article has nothing to do with George Lucas. The good news is tomorrow the newest edition of the Nintendo DS will be released in stores as the video game giant is the latest company to jump on the 3D bandwagon.

It was almost two years ago to the date when Ghostbusters: The Video Game arrived in store shelves. Both Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray had active roles not only as voice actors, but in the game’s creation. In the end, it was a sub-par game that had its moments. Recently released on the Playstation Network is another Ghostbusters title. How does it measure up to its predecessor? It’s not an even match-up as the experiences of both are vastly different.

Imagine in the year 2027 we are living in a country where all the freedoms we have fought so hard for were eliminated by a unification of North and South Korea. Then imagine being forced into camps similar to those used in WWII by the Germans. If you are lucky enough to not be in one of these camps, then you have to live with the fear of knowing that any moment one of the newly empowered Korean soldiers could kick in your door and take you into custody. How do you feel about that? Continue reading ‘Homefront (PS3 Game Review)’

I have owned a PlayStation 3 for a little over a year now and this has been my first experience with a game from the PlayStation Store. As you all probably know, some games are heavily advertised on the home pages of Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network and thus give an excellent insight into how the game will be. Unfortunately, Slam Bolt Scrappers was not one of these heavily advertised titles and therefore I was a bit skeptical, but nonetheless, thanks to our kind PR person at SOE, I was up for the challenge. The people at Capcom have done it again. They managed to take the most recognizable characters from Marvel and pit them against their own impressive list of characters from some of their marquee games. In Marvel vs. Capcom 2 there was a plethora of characters to choose from, 56 in fact. In this installment the roster has been reduced by twenty. What they lack in character selection they more than make up for in other areas. Let’s take a closer look. Continue reading ‘Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds’
