The Tick is an Amazon Video series based on the satirical comic book series of the same name. Many will remember the animated series from the 90s and possibly the previous live-action attempt from the early 00s, but it is now back in possibly the most exciting form yet. For those unaware, The Tick (Peter Serafinowicz) is a superhero in a blue bug costume who arrives in a city known as “The City” to help fight crime. However, this take on the series actually focuses more on a former accountant named Arthur (Griffin Newman) who becomes The Tick’s sidekick as they fight various supervillains. I was lucky enough to interview some of the cast members of the series during San Diego Comic-Con. This interview features actor Michael Cerveris, who stars as Ramses IV, a gang ruler conducting crime with flare. Continue on to see the video where I question Michael about what Ramses IV aspires to as the costumed gangster.

I guess for the past couple of years now Entertainment Weekly has put on a Women Who Kick-Ass Panel at Comic-Con International. This year’s panel featured a single woman, Charlize Theron, showcasing her most recent work Atomic Blonde, which dropped in theaters this week finally and her involvement in Fate of the Furious and one of my personal favorites Mad Max: Fury Road. This year Entertainment Weekly senior writer Sara Vilkomerson was chosen to sit down with Theron in front of a captive Saturday Hall H crowd that was just rendered speechless by the previous panel, the Justice League. While I wasn’t impressed with the lack of enthusiasm and knowledge Vilkomerson employed in her interview of Theron, the latter woman wowed me a lot. She’s beautiful, yes. However, she’s also very humble and gracious, but make no mistake about it you don’t want to pick a fight with her. The proud mother went into detail regarding the endless, grueling hours of training she endured for her role in Atomic Blonde as well as the injuries she was subjected to. I mean good God she clenched her teeth so hard that she broke two of them. I wouldn’t mess with a woman like that. LOL. Saturday brought us wonderful Marvel and Warner Bros. Hall H panels covered in detail here and here, but perhaps my third most favorite one was Netflix’s Stranger Things. If you’re unfamiliar with the show and you’re my age, it’s your childhood! It’s a pop culture phenomenon. In this Hall H panel we were treated to an in-depth discussion of the series, the journey to Season 2 and never-before-seen footage of what’s to come this October. They replayed the latter twice as the crowd erupted in wild roar both times. We even had a surprise guest take the microphone for a question to the onstage cast. Justice for Barb was also finally served. New faces in Season 2 include Paul Reiser. The rest of the cast, young and old, is just as likable in person as their onscreen counterparts on the show are. Now all I want to know is where’s the Season 1 Blu-ray release? Ha ha. Check out all our exclusive photos of the Hall H panel down below. HBO’s Westworld concluded its critically acclaimed first season this past December and is currently in production filming things for season 2. The series-created, executive produced, and written by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name. Saturday’s Hall H cast panelists included Ben Barnes as Logan, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as Armistice, Ed Harris as the Man in Black, Luke Hemsworth as Stubbs, James Marsden as Teddy, Thandie Newton as Maeve, Simon Quarterman as Lee Sizemore, Rodrigo Santoro as Hector, Angela Sarafyan as Clementine, Jimmi Simpson as William, Tessa Thompson as Charlotte Hale, Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores, Shannon Woodward as Elsie and Jeffrey Wright as Bernard. The panel was moderated by internationally renowned vocal artist/beatboxer/musician/comedian Reggie Watts.

I don’t often post episodes of Out Now with Aaron and Abe, the podcast I co-host weekly, but this was a special event. Given that a few members of the Why So Blu crew were at Comic-Con this year, it seemed right to record an episode where we could gather everyone’s thoughts about this year’s convention. So I was joined by Brian White, Jordan Grout, and Bron Anderson, along with my lovely girlfriend, Ana Bosch, as we dove into a discussion concerning the various panels, footage and more seen in sunny San Diego this year. In this episode, you’ll find us all talking about Marvel, Warner Brothers, Ready Player One, Stranger Things, Kingsman, The Walking Dead, Westworld, Gifted, Laika and so much more. Despite recording late at night, after a long day, we all had a lot of fun going over our experiences, despite being tired. So please listen in and enjoy.

I’m a tad biased since I’m completely smitten by the DCEU movie universe as evident over here, but that doesn’t mean I have blinders on either. Marvel’s Hall H Comic-Con panel may not have been as energetic, technology embracing or even as fun as the presentation put on by Warner Bros. that same day, but it’s ultimately the quality of the trailers on display that count. That much I cannot dispute as Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War all look incredible. So rather than splitting this panel out into three separate posts, which it easily could be, I want to cover them in order below as they happened on the Hall H stage in front of the captive 6,000 plus patrons in attendance. We waited all day to see this footage and I don’t think anyone left that Hall H with the slightest look of disappointment on their faces. Come on! I’ll show you around! I’d be lying if I said the Justice League Hall H presentation wasn’t my most anticipated panel of Comic-Con 2017, because it so is! I didn’t even mind that much when Disney recently said Star Wars would be absent this year. Whatever! As long as Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher were sitting front and center in front of the captive audience of 6,000 plus with me in attendance that’s all that truly matters. Honestly, I never thought I would ever say that before either. Up until last year Star Wars has been my life, but not anymore. There’s a 6-member elite team (yes I said 6) that stole my heart and has commanded my undivided attention ever since last year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. That’s the film that kicked all of this off within me. The majority of critics didn’t get it, but every time I sit down with it (19 times now), Batman v Superman just keeps getting better and better. I know what you’re thinking. I’m crazy right? Well I probably am, but I have yet to be diagnosed as so. Therefore, I am not! Jason Momoa came crashing down from the back of Hall H down the aisles, high-fiving fans along the way. People went absolutely crazy for this. When he finally got on stage, moderator Chris Hardwick said, “makes sense that you’re Aquaman, because everyone is super wet right now.” It was a funny and exciting way to begin a really great Justice League panel.

The Hall H 180 screens continued today with Blade Runner 2049. After a run down of what happened with Deckard and what has happened to society since 2019 (I won’t spoil it), Jared Leto came onstage and began discussing the future and what Blade Runner means to him. After he was done, he disappeared, revealing that we had been watching a hologram the entire time. Pretty amazing.

20th Century Fox began creating stories in the X-men universe for television last year with the outstanding and surreal “Legion” on FX. This year they jump to a more mainstream appeal type of show with “The Gifted,” which will debut on Fox this Fall. At Comic Con this year, they brought a sneak peek clip of the upcoming show that laid out the premise, introduced a few characters, and created a good amount of intrigue for what is to come. While it was immediately clear that this isn’t going to be as ambitious as “Legion”, “The Gifted” has the right elements to be a success.

I completely understand that a lot Walking Dead fans aren’t crazy about Fear The Walking Dead. Fortunately for you then I have you covered with THE Walking Dead Hall H panel at Comic-Com this year. Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Chandler Riggs, Seth Gilliam, Alanna Masterson, and Khary Payton join executive producer and showrunner Scott M. Gimple, executive producer Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer Dave Alpert and special effects makeup supervisor and executive producer Greg Nicotero in a panel that was supposed to be moderated by Chris Hardwick (The Nerdist, Talking Dead). The panelists gathered to discuss the past season, filming the 100th episode and shared some hints of what’s to come with a sneak peek into season 8, debuting this October on AMC TV. I have to admit. Sadly I almost gave up on Fear the Walking Dead after the lackluster second season last year. I was not a fan of it at all. However, my fiancée encouraged and persuaded me to watch the Season Three premiere a few months back. Holy hell! I was instantly hooked as it started off with a bang taking no prisoners. Don’t even get me started on that last sequence for the mid season finale either. It was near perfect the way the ending montage played out against the haunting cover of “Stand by Me,” but I digress. So here we are! It’s Friday! We’re in Hall H at Comic-Con 2017! Does life get any better than this? I don’t know if it does. LOL. Let’s talk some Fear The Walking Dead Comic-Con style now.

I’m King of the North! No, I’m King of the North. Wait! I’m King of the North. Were dwindling down, folks. Who’s going to be King of the North? We shall find out soon, but not at this Comic-Con Hall H panel of course. Based on the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, HBO’s Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning series Game of Thrones began its seventh season this past July 16th. The series, executive produced and written by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years. Cast panelists in Hall H included Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, Jacob Anderson as Grey Worm, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth, Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei, Conleth Hill as Varys, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark and Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark. The Hall H panel was moderated by a special Westerosian guest. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2017 Hall H: Game of Thrones’
