It’s truly amazing how die hard the so-called twi-hard fans really are. They camped out for days for the final twilight comic con panel. I was lucky enough to get a spot in the press pit right next to the stage with some nice and some not so nice photographers and journalists. After being crushed up against the stage (by photographers not fans) at the Twilight Panel I didn’t know if I could make it all the way to ballroom 20 for the Psych panel. Comic-Con thankfully has a Starbucks inside and it was very tempting to just sit down and relax with a black iced tea and a scone after the Twilight pandemonium. I ran, to the Psych panel (okay I walked really fast) and I made it just in time for the panel moderator and Psych cast member Timothy Ombudsman’s introduction. San Diego Comic Con 2012 starts today with preview night and runs until this Sunday, July 15th. Mondo will be there at booth #437, you can download a Comic Con map via the link below to help you find the Mondo booth. During Comic Con Mondo will have 15+ NEW posters (that number includes variants) to release in addition to archival stuff Mondo pulled for this year. You know how they used to and still do introduce Kiss as the hottest band in the world? Well, the same can be applicable with every housewife’s favorite S&M book title, Fifty Shades of Grey. Next month, E L James, the author of the Fifty Shades trilogy, will be signing books July 12, 4-5:30 at the San Diego Convention Center. The ticketed afternoon event is free. This is the author’s first book signing on the West Coast. First published in May 2011, Fifty Shades of Grey follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed explore the couple’s deepening relationship. Since Vintage Books acquired the books in March 2012, the trilogy has sold 16 million copies in the U.S. in all formats. I guess my question is legitimately, how are they going to make these movies with even a an R-rating? Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2012: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Book Signings’

So like most things in my life, events happen and transpire unexpectedly and generally for a reason…at least I tend to always cling on to that hope they do. Such was the occasion when not only did I get to attend the premiere screening of Chillerama at Comic-Con with one of my favorite directors, Adam Green (listen to my full interview with him here), but also got to meet and converse with directors Tim Sullivan, Adam Rifkin and Joe Lynch, as well as the fabulous ensemble cast that was on hand to meet and greet fans and press alike. Among such talent was an actor named Anton Troy. Along with my San Diego DJ friend, Lauren Winston, we got the exciting opportunity to attend the film’s after party at an upscale nightclub called Stingaree. We ended up enjoying a beautiful evening with the cast and crew of “I Was a Teenage Werebear,” the second segment in the horror/comedy anthology Chillerama (see the full review here). Bellflower is certainly one of the more unique and original films that I had the chance to see this year. As I described in my review (found HERE), the film is about two guys, a girl, and flamethrowers. Medusa, a muscle car equipped with flamethrowers is a major symbol of the film, but it is also a relationship drama of sorts, as writer/director/star Evan Glodell’s character deals with the journey of tormented love, mixed with some surreal imagery that channels the apocalyptic stakes that this film throws at the viewer. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview the entire cast of the film, which is what will follow below. Continue reading ‘Interview With The Cast Of ‘Bellflower’’

Saturday was another busy day for San Diego Comic Con. Unfortunately I was not able to attend the panel in Hall H for Francis Ford Coppola’s new film Twixt, which I have heard was one of the more interesting panels at Comic Con. However, right after I caught a glimpse of Coppola, I did manage to get seated for the panel that followed afterward, which is the new Greek Myth-themed action epic, Immortals. While some may be interested (or disinterested) because of its at-first-glance similarities to 300, I have been intrigued by this film due to director Tarsem Singh, who has a unique visual style. I’ll admit that I was also really hoping to see star Mickey Rourke at the panel as well, but unfortunately he was a no show. That said, audiences still got to witness a pretty killer panel, as we were treated to some very cool clips from the film and some insight about the production. Avatar: The Last Airbender was a Nickelodeon series that ran for three seasons, starting in 2005. It was praised for being both a strong action series and for containing a compelling story and characters, who all possessed their own personalities and arcs. That series reached its very fitting end in 2008, but the plans for a continuation in some way has been in the making for some time. Finally, at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, the creative team behind The Last Airbender spent time explaining the new continuation of the series, The Legend of Korra, and premiered a first look at the new season. Among the biggest things at San Diego Comic Con this year, people were heavily anticipating panels for Spielberg and The Adventures of Tintin, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and of course Twilight. Another widely anticipated event would be the reveal of new footage from the upcoming Spider-Man film. During the Sony Pictures panel on Friday in Hall H, fans were treated not only to the new adventures of everyone’s favorite web head, but an entire two and a half hour block worth of panels to promote not only Spider-Man, but also Total Recall, 30 Minutes or Less, and the surprisingly promising Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. This really was a packed panel, which did its best to provide plenty of buzz worthy news about each upcoming film. Hey all you TwiHearts, I had the pleasure of covering the Breaking Dawn Part 1 panel in Hall H at Comic Con on Thursday morning! People had been in line since Sunday, talk about dedication. I decided I better secure a place too, so I settled in about 7 pm the night before. There were already hundreds of people ahead of me, Moms, Dads, people of all ages. The Twilight series has touched the hearts of so many people, not just teenage girls. The dedication and devotion of these fans is just so over whelming. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2011: Twilight’

Spartacus: Vengeance is the name of the show. It’s the second full-length season of the highly successful Starz premium television show, Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Need I say anything more? Seriously. This is the moment we have all been waiting for ladies and gentleman. This is the real deal. And today we are here to celebrate everything Spartacus. Hold on tight. So it gives me great pleasure and honor to provide you, our readers, with exclusive roundtable interview coverage and photos recorded/taken with the stars of the hit series, Spartacus. It is funny how two Hall H panels in a row featured films that have vampires in the lead roles, during a sunny Friday afternoon at San Diego Comic Con. Following the Screen Gems panel that featured Attack the Block and Underworld Awakening, next up was DreamWorks presentation of Fright Night, a remake of the 1985 horror/comedy/cult classic. For an hour long panel that was not about to bring people to ecstatic levels like the Tintin panel earlier in the day, a commendable job was done thanks to the presence of the cast/crew (namely Colin Farrell), multiple clips from the film, and a cool and appropriate choice for the panel moderator. In addition to my interview with Adam Green this past Friday at the Gas Lamp Cinemas in San Diego, I also got the chance to sit down and candidly speak with Chillerama directors Adam Rifkin and Tim Sullivan. Never having met these two gents before, I was optimistic that our conversation would be both fruitful and exciting. And thankfully, both results and more were yielded. I know I say this constantly about Mr. Green, but these two gents, Rifkin and Sullivan, are some of the nicest people you will ever meet in Hollywood. You know how when you meet someone for the first time you reserve judgment for a few minutes until you get to know them? First impressions, whether it be body language or whatnot, are really important and can make or break the interview experience. Well I kid you not, these two had me from hello. Whenever I get the chance to talk to writer/director Adam Green, I jump at the opportunity to do so. I drop everything I’m doing and I seize the moment. Because for me, talking with Adam Green is more valuable than any education in film that you will ever receive. All one has to do is watch the behind the scenes extras or listen to the commentaries on Hatchet, Hatchet 2 or Frozen to completely understand where I’m coming from. Simply put, you will never find a nicer person in Hollywood who is willing to not only pay attention to you, but also give you priceless advice. And I encourage you that whenever Adam speaks, you listen carefully and take precise notes because this man is a walking book of knowledge to all us aspiring filmmakers.
