Celtic WomanIn 2005, a new Irish-themed show entered the touring scene.  Debuting in Cleveland, Ohio at that time, the show started appearing on public television and was soon amassing fans across the country.  It wouldn’t take long before the hit show made itself known overseas as well.  So what exactly made this entity such a hit with fans? Irish Dance and the Flatley Factor

Michael Flatley's 'Lord of the Dance'Four years is not that long when you think about and in that amount of time from now, Riverdance will become 20 years old.  Where has the time gone?  The year was 1994 and a little something known as the Eurovision Song Contest, a competition that is a fixture in Europe, was being hosted by Ireland.  As host, it was their duty to provide a piece of entertainment with hopes of impressing audience members and television viewers alike. Interview with Michael Flatley

Michael FlatleySeptember 19, 1997 is a date I will always remember.  I have been fortunate enough in my life that I got to interview (and later meet) someone who inspired more than anyone else.  This may sound cliché, but Irish dance changed me, my life, the way I approach things, etc.  This interview, while it didn’t really fall into my lap, well, I’m just going to say it fell into my lap.  I had been chatting online one day with a fellow Lord of the Dance fan named ‘Mitzi.’ Continue reading ‘Interview with Michael Flatley’

Powerman 5000 – Somewhere On The Other Side Of Nowhere (CD Review)

Powerman 5000 Somewhere on the Otherside of Nowhere (CD Review)

1999 was a great year, let me count the ways.  Woodstock ’99, Y2K, the end of the world, etc…  Okay, so a lot of it was blown way out of proportion.  What wasn’t blown out of proportion was the arrival or rebirth (if you will) of a particular band by the name of Powerman 5000.  They came in with guitars set on ANNIHILATE and DESTROY.  Led by Spider One, these futuristic sci-fi characters landed on the scene with their second album entitled Tonight the Stars Revolt! Shakira’s a Gypsy!

Shakira's "Gypsy"My love/hate relationship with the beautiful Shakira continues.  Why do I use love/hate to describe my relationship with Shakira?  Well, it’s quite simple really.  In my opinion, Shakira is one of the most talented musical artists out there, but whatever agent or person is responsible for picking out her singles really sucks.  I really hope I am not talking about you Shaki.  If so, then please forgive me. Johnny Cash Tribute w/ Jimmie Ray & Cyndi Cantrell

Jimmie RayIf any of you readers frequent Las Vegas often, you know that at any given moment you’re bound to see something that puts you in a state of “ah.”  Whether this is an intoxicated patron conducting a free sidewalk show or even a 1950’s young Elvis taking tips for a memorable, yet cherishing photo, there’s always a good show in Vegas!  In any case, that’s similar to what happened to me last week in Sin City.  February 22nd through the 28th was a tribute to the late musician Johnny Cash! WSB’s Aaron Harris Interviews Marc Rizzo

Marc RizzoHey guys and gals!  It’s Aaron Harris back at the ball and chain, (my desk) reporting on an interview I had with a superstar musician.  Now when I say ‘musician,’ I mean musician!  This is a guy who plays everything by hand, which being a musician myself, will do also, but to a certain extent.  Ok, ok, let me stop beating around the bush and let you know whom I am referring to, but hold on, have you guys ever played Guitar Hero?  If so, you’ll definitely lose playing against this guy.  Marc Rizzo folks, Marc “the hardest working man” Rizzo! Rob Zombie – Hellbilly Deluxe 2 (CD Review)

Hellbilly Deluxe 2 (CD Review)Back in my late teens, I remember my grandfather always saying that these were the best days of your life and to enjoy them.  Growing up in the rebellious grunge era of the 1990’s those words were unfortunately lost on me.  I did not feel fortunate in life, and I certainly was not going to listen to an old man who obviously did not know what he was talking about.  I never truly understood what he meant until I hit my thirties. Diggin’ Graves with Captain Clegg

Captain Clegg and the Night CreaturesFrom November up to now, there has been a lot of buzz on Why So Blu about Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.  This holiday season, we were able to chat with the Captain about his early beginnings in music, his deadliness with a six-string and working with metal magician Rob Zombie.  For the faint at heart, here’s your fair warning to beware.  Clegg tells it like it is in his no-holds-barred delivery. Gregg’s Album of the Year

Dave Matthews Band With Blu-ray Brian yet to reveal his choice for ‘album of the year,’ I have landed on my decision after a review of the 2009 releases.  While it’s no small task to cover them all, and no, I’m not going to act like I listened to every CD that came out this year, it is always a difficult but fun category to cover.  How can you compare a classical piece to a country tune?  Hip-hop to metal?  The truth is, you really can’t, but the category calls for one record to stand above all others so that is what will be delivered. Five Bands You Should Know

Five Bands You Should KnowMaking it all the way to the top is no easy feat.  Landing a record deal is hard enough let alone being able to tour and get your name out there.  Unfortunately, there are several extremely talented and very entertaining bands out there that are not household names and as a result, are flying under our radar.  Do not deprive your ears any longer from their musical brilliance!  If a band didn’t make MTV, that doesn’t mean a thing! Larger Than Life in 3D

Larger Than Life in 3DThis past week, a very rare thing happened in U.S. cinema.  A film was released for one week.  Yep, that’s it, seven days.  On December 11th, Director Lawrence Jordan’s concert film, Larger Than Life in 3D hit theaters making anything but a big splash.  Filmed at the three-day long Austin City Limits music festival in Austin, Texas this past October, Larger Than Life in 3D features the musical work of Gogol Bordello, Ben Harper and Relentless7, and last but certainly not least, Dave Matthews Band. Lady Gaga – The Fame Monster (CD Review)

Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster CD ReviewI have to admit to being late to the scene when I first discovered Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, or Lady Gaga to the layperson.  I remember hearing the name before, but I knew nothing about the brains behind the woman who is responsible for orchestrating that infectious “Just Dance” track that seemingly always blasted from my wife’s KISS FM listening habits in the car. Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live in Las Vegas!Ahhh Vegas.  They really know how to throw a party out there.  Call it the entertainment capital of the world, the grown-ups’ playground, call it what you may, there’s no denying that those casinos know how to bring in an audience and have them leaving happy.  The folks at the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino are no stranger to this, as this past week the famed establishment hosted the likes of none other than Dave Matthews and his guitarist-extraordinaire friend, Tim Reynolds.
