One panel after the infamous stabbing incident on Saturday, July 24th at Comic-Con 2010, Jon Favreau came enthusiastically running out onto the Hall H stage and grabbed the microphone as he woke up everyone in the crowd with his zest and energy. What a fantastic moment that was. Anyway, he then went on to bring out the 007 Agent himself, Mr. Daniel Craig. The place went crazy like a rousing crowd at a horse race track. Right before the infamous stabbing incident happened in Hall H on Saturday, July 24th, I was treated to another favorite of mine, Milla Jovovich and Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Afterlife. Milla’s battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights when Alice dukes it out in “real” 3-D, not the fake kind. Writer/director Paul W. S. Anderson treated us with a 3-D presentation of the film’s trailer and a really kick-a$$ clip from the movie. Wow! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Resident Evil: Afterlife 3-D’

Capping off my adventures at Comic-Con 2010 on Friday, July 23rd, I settled into a 4th row seat within room 32ab for the Hatchet II panel hosted by writer/director Adam Green. I’ll be honest; I attended this primarily to get an up-close glimpse of the beautiful Danielle Harris (a favorite of mine from the old and new Halloween franchises), but as I listened to the brilliant Adam Green speak, the inspiring filmmaker in me could not help but try to absorb every word of wisdom he had to say. Another Comic-Con is in the history books as Sunday saw the big event wind down and come to a close. Before the staff of Why So Blu packed their bags and were on their way, there was still time to gather last minute pieces of information. For all you Spider-Man readers out there, I have some interesting news that will fill the pages of Marvel’s most heralded title come this fall. Continue reading ‘Comic Con 2010: Spider-Man Comics’

Most of the time it pays to be a member of press at Comic-Con, but not when it comes to the lines. We must stand in the same lines as everybody else. And so was the tale of our early 7 AM departure on Saturday morning to get the first glimpse of Green Lantern footage before anyone else does. Was it worth standing in line for over 3 hours before getting into Hall H? Hell yeah, you better believe it was! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: DC Comics’ Green Lantern’

Although Gregg Senko kind of reported on all things Hall H yesterday, I have a slew of photos from every panel that I wanted to share with all our readers. First up, is the surprise event of the night, maybe even a lifetime, depending upon who you are talking to. As we were beginning to leave the press area and people were starting to file out after the encore presentation of the Thor trailer, Mr. Samuel L. Jackson unexpectedly took the Hall H stage and the place erupted in cheers and shouts. But wait! There’s more! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Marvel Studios’ Avengers’

For the second straight year in a row now, Ballroom 20 was packed full beyond capacity with fans of Alan Ball’s HBO series, True Blood. Even the peeps that waited for over 3 hours outside the Ballroom were not able to get in. Diehard True Blood fans suffered through preceding morning/afternoon panels just to get a glimpse of their favorite premium cable cast. Was it worth it? Of course it was! However, being a member of the press does have its advantages (insert smile). Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: HBO’s True Blood’

A place to sit is a much sought after item in the large Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center. The reason for this is due to the fact that this hallowed hall is where all the big budget films introduce their cast and trailers. Saturday saw the likes of some highly anticipated titles making their debut, at least in teaser form, to the capacity crowd of 6,500. Just to give you an idea of how hot of a commodity a seat is in that room, we arrived at the convention center to line up at 7:30 am. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Day 3 Hall H Recap’

One of the greatest things about attending Comic-Con is the sneak peak attendees have access to; from everything like movies to publications, the grand event houses several of these opportunities. During a recent discussion panel with Image’s Robert Kirkman, the creative force introduced the new comic book label, Skybound, which falls under the realm of Image Comics. One of the first titles under this fresh new imprint is a very unique story titled Witch Doctor. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Witch Doctor from Skybound / Image Comics’

Here’s an event Why So Blu fellow photographer Scott T. Morrison and myself are always happy to be part of… the annual Leia’s Metal Bikini Photo Shoot at Comic-Con in usually, sunny San Diego, CA. Check out some of the exclusive photos below, taken by Scott T. Morrison, yesterday at the Gentle Giant booth and at the Marvel Studio’s booth on the new Thor display. Comic-Con fans packed Room 6BCF on Friday to get a glimpse of the hottest show on premium cable. Move over True Blood… I’m talking Spartacus: Blood and Sand! We were gathered there that day to celebrate three things: everything Spartacus and their success, the upcoming 6-part prequel miniseries and most importantly, Andy Whitfield’s defeat of cancer. It was like being in the gladiator arena audience. The crowd was rowdy as can be. And I truly loved every minute of this panel! Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Spartacus’

It was nearly 30 years ago when Disney released a science fiction film that altered the landscape of special effects. Known simply as Tron, the film included the likes of the now Oscar winner Jeff Bridges. The story was simple; a guy gets warped into a computer and has to find his way out. Little does he know that perils await at every turn as a fully functional dictatorship exists in the virtual landscape. Donned in CCM hockey helmets and futuristic uniforms accented with white tape, the film’s crew used this combination along with a creative lighting effect to give a luminescence to the actors and the world in which they roam. This was a very pleasant surprise yesterday… fo sho! While scavenging the streets of San Diego for some quick chow we stumbled upon a block party where Robert Rodriguez was screening some exclusive footage from his upcoming grindhouse film, Machete. Add even better… free tacos were being handed out to the crowd! I’m just exaggerating… there’s nothing better than Robert Rodriguez, but there were free tacos. While we were not able to talk with Mr. Rodriguez, we did snap some great pictures of the infamous director and also of Michelle. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Robert Rodriguez’s Machete’

Welcome to the first of many updates from Comic-Con’s Hall H. Today’s first update begins with a little spy film that opened last night, Salt. It’s not every day that you get to be in the same room as Angelina Jolie. Angelina, joined by fellow co-star Liev Schreiber and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura took the Hall H stage at 1 PM on Thursday, July 22nd. There really is no easy way to do this so I’m just kind of going with a free-for-all format below. Continue reading ‘Comic-Con 2010: Angelina Jolie & Salt’

Let the Con begin! Staff members from Why So Blu have descended upon the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. For the inundated, Comic-Con is not simply a fanboy event to get all oogly-googly over Spider-Man and Wonder Woman. Ohhh no, my friends. It is so much more than that. It has become one of the largest launch pads in the world for film, alternative press, collectibles, gaming, television…you name it. With Wednesday the 21st being Preview Night, a few of us had the opportunity to watch the premiere of the CW Network’s Nikita, courtesy of Warner Bros. Studios.
