Screamfest 2020 Drive In Edition – “What To See”

With this year being such a hard one, some cinematic escape is more than welcome and thankfully for horror film fans in Los Angeles there is a little Halloween treat in store.  The genre loving geniuses over at Screamfest are proud to present the upcoming SCREAMFEST HORROR FILM FESTIVAL 2020 (go to www.screamfestla.com for more details!) taking place October 6th – 15thDRIVE IN EDITION!  That’s right fright fans you can get your scream on right from the comfort and safety of your own car this year as the 20th Annual version of this iconic fest will be taking place this year at the Regency Theatres – The Plant Drive In (7876 Van Nuys Blvd, Van Nuys CA 91402) – and concessions and restrooms will be fully available alongside the big screen carnage.  (Opening Night will be held at Calamigos Ranch – Screamfest Pop-up Drive-in at 327 Latigo Canyon Road Malibu, CA 90265)  And as always the programmers of the fest do not disappoint with a lineup including 15 features and 73 shorts all ranging from cool classics to original insidious indies making their premieres.  And as always I will be covering the fest for WhySoBlu.com to keep you informed of the gems and duds as they unspool.  But first up a sneak peek – from love stories involving unusual couples – one alive, one dead – to a return to slasher teen horror and even film appearances by some iconic boogeymen, here is a look at what’s in store for fans for Screamfest 2020 – its …‘What To See’!

A Joel Schumacher Tribute – Top Five Films

We recently lost someone who in my humble movie opinion was a filmmaker who possessed a distinctive style and a definitive movie magic quality – Director Joel Schumacher sadly passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer.  Having been a fan of his work since I was a kid, I can honestly say that some of his films had a long-lasting effect on me.  And while there were some outings that were merely just entertaining (Phone Booth had its moments!) and fluffy (Batman Forever is a guilty pleasure for sure!), there were also more than enough notable and even five-star flicks of his that broke ground to have their rightful place in cinema history.  (And I have reviews going back years that rave about the selections below!)  From bitter businessmen who have had enough to the hijinks of a wacky cab company, here’s my tribute to the late great Joel Schumacher with a look at his…Top Five Films.

James Bond 007 Themes – Worst to Best (Music Review)

With the current state of affairs around the world, cinemas and movies theaters alike have taken a pause and closed the curtain temporarily, which unfortunately also includes flicks that were soon to be released.  One such movie was the next (and possibly final!) outing of Daniel Craig as James Bond 007 that was supposed to hit in April – the tasty looking No Time To Die.

Stuart Gordon: A Career Retrospective

With the recent passing of famed filmmaker Stuart Gordon, it felt appropriate to pay tribute to one of the genre’s most notorious helmers with a look back at the talented writer/director’s long film career.  From cool cheddar fare (Robot Jox is still a guilty pleasure!) to flicks that changed the game (Re-Animator is a classic no matter how you slice it!) here is a loving look at the life and film work of all things Stuart Gordon.
