What a twisted film. I loved it. There is no sense in hiding my feelings for Law Abiding Citizen starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. I really can’t remember that last time I’d been to the theater two days in a row, but after the draining monotony of Amelia yesterday, I needed some cinematic Listerine to wash the taste out of my mouth. I really don’t know where in the world to begin with this movie. Continue reading ‘Jamie Foxx & Gerard Butler; Law Abiding Citizens’

First you’ve got Oscar-winner Hilary Swank. Next, add in some Richard Gere and then throw in a little Ewan McGregor for good measure. What do you have? An extremely talented cast, that’s what. Amelia is a film about the professional and private life of famed aviator, Amelia Earhart. I will sheepishly admit, even as someone who is interested in history, I knew little of the woman, other than she disappeared on what was to be a record-setting flight. Continue reading ‘Amelia Doesn’t Soar to New Heights’

Just when you think the intensity of the plotlines could not possibly get any more convoluted, intertwined and twisted, you are proven wrong time and again. It’s Halloween time so that must mean it’s Saw time. I have to be honest. I did not think I was going to make the debut outing tonight (referring to Friday), but the damp fall weather and a friend’s persistent nudges to venture out proved to be a fruitful endeavor, worthy of an entry in my Top 10 list of theatrical releases this year. Continue reading ‘Brian Finishes Jigsaw’s Puzzle in Saw VI’

Gerald Butler and Jamie Foxx go head to head in a cat and mouse tale of domestic terrorism in Law Abiding Citizen. The initial trailer that I saw for this movie had me rooting for Clyde Shelton (Gerald Butler’s character). He’s the guy that manages to survive a home invasion that brutally ends the lives of his family. Clyde feels that the American judicial system has revealed has failed him, so he has decided to teach the city of Philadelphia a lesson. Continue reading ‘Donald Judges The Law Abiding Citizen’

The question begs to be asked. Does Twilight suck as bad as our mascot Dexter leads us to believe (see photos below)? What is everyone’s infatuation with the Twilight movies and books? Are they really as good as everyone makes them out to be or are we the American people so brainwashed by pop culture that we believe anything that is told to us? I tend to put my money in the latter of the two stocks. Continue reading ‘Does Twilight Suck That Bad?’

Before October 8th, 2009, I had no idea there was a movie out there called Paranormal Activity. On October 9th, I saw the film and you can bet that I will never forget it. In a year filled with a lot of garbage as far as movies go, I stress to you, I urge you to go see this film. I’d say it was a breath of fresh air, but the movie was so overpowering at times that it literally took my breath away. Continue reading ‘Gregg Experiences Paranormal Activity’

What started out as a pilot for a CBS horror-comedy show, turned out to become this weekend’s number one smash hit at the box office. Shot with a $23.6 million budget and pulling in some initial weekend dough of $25 million, Zombieland is something Hollywood and audiences should take notice of. That’s really not bad when all you have to do is fill the screen up with gore and laughter. Zombieland is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Continue reading ‘Zombieland: “Gotta Enjoy the Little Things”’

Cheerleader Jennifer (Megan Fox) goes from plain bitchy to supernatural evil when she returns from the grave with a thirst for the blood of teenage boys. It’s up to her nerdy best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried) to save the day before Jennifer feasts on the town’s entire male population with an eye on Needy’s boyfriend as her next victim… Continue reading ‘Thor Gets Fresh With Jennifer’s Body’

Telling the truth is such an easy concept when you strip back the layers and psychoanalyze the action, but why is it so hard for people to ultimately do? I’m sure you heard the phrase that honesty goes a long way. So why does it always seem to get us in trouble when things are really much better off left unsaid? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you lived in a world where everybody always told the truth no matter how harsh it might sound? In the good old days of movie making, the only way to get a movie made was with a sensible plot and, hopefully, a movie star or two to make it even more interesting. The recipe has since changed to making movies based off of brand awareness. The recipe only changed because people stopped going to see critically acclaimed films, and decided instead to see movies like The Day After Tomorrow because in the preview there was a cool tornado. Continue reading ‘No Plot, No Problem. Just Add Special Effects!’

Suppose you were in the mood for a good science fiction/horror recipe. And no, I am not talking about Jason X. Let’s first throw in a tad of the chilling suspense found in the original John Carpenter Halloween. Next, let’s add some enticements. Remember the heart-pounding clenching fear you felt while watching the original Alien film? Well, let’s put some of that in there. Continue reading ‘Brian Suffers From Pandorum’

Should I be concerned or seriously ponder anymore why Fame was one of the best movies I have seen theatrically in the past month? I’m not really sure how I feel about this. It sits a little uneasy with me. I go to this movie I had little to no interest in, especially considering the subject matter, and I come out a believer. I’ll expand on that in a little bit, but for now let’s talk more Fame! Continue reading ‘Fame! Brian’s Going To Live Forever!’

Sorority Row is rated R for strong bloody violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and partying. So automatically I know that there is something I am going to like and that’s enough for me to seat through another cheap teen horror remake. Just like every other guy, I enjoy sex and violence at the movies, but this movie was so bad even that couldn’t save it for me. Continue reading ‘David Says Sorority Row is Hot and Not’

Jennifer’s body was hot. Now that I’ve covered all the good points of the film, you’ll notice I was not talking about the movie as a whole there in all its un-italicized glory. Yes Megan Fox is indeed eye candy and recent interviews quoted her in unhappiness with the self-proclaimed over-glamorizing she endured in both Transformers films. Continue reading ‘Gregg Says Jennifer’s Body Was Hot!’

Let’s be perfectly honest with ourselves. The main draw of Jennifer’s Body is Megan Fox’s body. Oops! I meant to say actress Megan Fox. Is there really any dispute in the fact? I, like most moviegoers, was really interested in one thing here. No, it wasn’t to see what if anything would be shown of Megan Fox’s bangin’ body. C’mon guys! Get your perverted minds out of the gutter. Continue reading ‘Brian Gazes At Megan Fox & Finds Jennifer’s Body’

A “whiteout” is defined as a condition of heavily falling or blowing snow in which visibility is very poor. The same condition must also apply, cinematically speaking, in reference to Kate Beckinsale’s newest thriller Whiteout. When a movie’s release date has been delayed for over two years that is usually a sign of something bad, or even worse, let’s use a simple synonym such as frightful. Continue reading ‘Brian Freezes in Kate Beckinsale’s Whiteout’

I wouldn’t exactly say I’m a huge Quentin Tarantino fan. I think some of the hype about him as a director overlooks the fact that he, just like Martin Scorcese, lifts almost everything he does from other films. Of course this can turn into a long discussion about the nature of plagiarism and its place in art (see Danger Mouse and Girl Talk) and I really don’t want to go there. Continue reading ‘Jon’s Analytical Coverage of Inglorious Basterds’

I’m generally not a fan of these teenage horror movies, but I have to admit that the film trailer’s plot really intrigued me. After seeing the trailer a record breaking four times before each of my Hangover viewings I really was down with the way it set up the movie on how the initial tragedy within Sorority Row had happened. Continue reading ‘Brian Sits in the Sorority Row’
