With this year being such a hard one, some cinematic escape is more than welcome and thankfully for horror film fans in Los Angeles there is a little Halloween treat in store. The genre loving geniuses over at Screamfest are proud to present the upcoming SCREAMFEST HORROR FILM FESTIVAL 2020 (go to www.screamfestla.com for more details!) taking place October 6th – 15th – DRIVE IN EDITION! That’s right fright fans you can get your scream on right from the comfort and safety of your own car this year as the 20th Annual version of this iconic fest will be taking place this year at the Regency Theatres – The Plant Drive In (7876 Van Nuys Blvd, Van Nuys CA 91402) – and concessions and restrooms will be fully available alongside the big screen carnage. Following a seven-year absence, September 29th, 1995, saw the long-awaited return of cinema’s most haunting shape, Michael Myers. For myself, as I’m sure for many other fans, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers was the first time I had the opportunity to see my favorite bogeyman on the big screen. As strange as the Thorn cult was, seeing Michael and Donald Pleasence’s Dr. Loomis square off for the final time wouldn’t be the biggest impact this film would have on me. As a more common history tells it, the film was ripped to shreds by critics, disappointed greatly at the box office, and didn’t launch Brother Cane into alt-rock stardom. Halloween fans, horror movie lovers, and other knowledgeable film crowds know its greatest legacy lies not on the screen debut of Paul “Steven” Rudd (Okay, Clueless beat it to release, but he shot this first), but from a highly sought after, copied and traded VHS tape featuring an alternative version of the sixth Halloween film known as “The Producer’s Cut.”

Greetings! Tis your favorite Blu-ray reviewer here on the site not named Gerard Iribe. I wanted to share with you the launch of my brand new podcast, THE BRANDON PETERS SHOW! Yesterday, the first episode was released to the world, but I felt today might be the more apt day to introduce it to the Why So Blu-0-sphere. Having amassed over 1,300 Blu-ray reviews here on this site, my passion for the media is one I’m always wanting to find new was to explore and promote. And with this podcast, I’m going to sink my teeth into that side of me a bit more. After the first episode and an interview I just did last night to promote the show on Flappers Comedy Club’s “Talkin’ Talkies”, its been readily apparent that my old days of DVD & Quality Control are hitting a nostalgic reflection with The Brandon Peters Show. We recently lost someone who in my humble movie opinion was a filmmaker who possessed a distinctive style and a definitive movie magic quality – Director Joel Schumacher sadly passed away after a yearlong battle with cancer. Having been a fan of his work since I was a kid, I can honestly say that some of his films had a long-lasting effect on me. And while there were some outings that were merely just entertaining (Phone Booth had its moments!) and fluffy (Batman Forever is a guilty pleasure for sure!), there were also more than enough notable and even five-star flicks of his that broke ground to have their rightful place in cinema history. (And I have reviews going back years that rave about the selections below!)
